In March 2021, a mother cat walked into a hospital in Izmir, Turkey, carrying a kitten. Staff examined the kitten, found an eye infection and arranged for a veterinarian to treat it with eye drops. The account documents the cat’s actions and the care that followed; it cannot establish whether she understood the hospital as a place to seek medical help.
What happened at the hospital?
Gulf Today reported on March 30, 2021, that the incident took place in Karabağlar district, Izmir. A video circulating on social media showed the cat entering the hospital with a kitten in her mouth. People inside called for others to make way for her. An unnamed hospital employee told local media that the cat arrived in the morning and meowed for a long time before staff noticed her.
Staff examined the kitten and identified an eye infection. A veterinarian administered eye drops, and staff provided the mother cat with food and water. The report also says staff found a second kitten in good health; the veterinarian gave that kitten eye drops as well. Gulf Today described the location as a hospital but did not name the facility.
What happened to the cats afterward?
In an April 7, 2021 account, Daily Paws corroborated the Izmir setting and the kitten’s eye infection. It reported that the litter was fed and kept warm while doctors consulted a veterinarian, and that the mother and kittens were later taken to Uzundere for continued treatment and monitoring. Daily Paws cited Gulf Today for the hospital scene, so this later detail comes from its account.

Did the cat know the hospital could help?
The reports do not verify the cat’s motive. They describe observable events: she carried a kitten into the hospital, staff noticed, and the kitten received care. Saying she knowingly brought her kitten to a place for medical treatment goes beyond what either account can establish. “Appeared to seek help” is a reasonable interpretation of the behavior, not a confirmed explanation of the cat’s thoughts.
