Reports on halftime-show practice describe union-scale pay rather than a headline concert fee, while the NFL typically covers production-related expenses. That is different from saying he receives no compensation at all—and no published contract or itemized account establishes his personal terms.
What “won’t get paid” means
The phrase is shorthand for the reported practice that Super Bowl halftime performers do not receive a conventional celebrity fee for performing. The Associated Press says artists do not get a paycheck for the show; CBS reports that performers receive union-scale pay, estimated at about $1,000 per day under SAG-AFTRA’s then-current contract. The estimate is general context, not a disclosed Bad Bunny fee or total: the number of his paid days and his individual contract terms are not public. CBS News; Associated Press.
| What is involved | What reporting says | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Conventional performance fee | AP reports that halftime performers do not get a paycheck for performing. | Bad Bunny’s private contract terms. |
| Union-scale compensation | CBS gives an approximate rate of $1,000 per day under SAG-AFTRA’s then-current contract. | Bad Bunny’s exact rate, paid days, or total. |
| Expenses | CBS says the NFL typically covers performers’ expenses, which can run into millions of dollars. | Bad Bunny’s personal spending or any cash paid directly to him. |
| Promotional exposure | AP identifies global exposure as the performers’ payoff. | The income, royalties, or net benefit Bad Bunny received because of the exposure. |
Why perform without a normal concert fee?
The halftime show is a high-profile promotional opportunity, not a standard paid concert booking. Bad Bunny’s performance put his music and image in front of a vast audience, while the NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music worked together on the event. The NFL controls the event, stage, broadcast, and branding; Roc Nation has curated halftime performers since 2019; and Apple Music distributes the performance. AP’s account of the partnership.
Bad Bunny described his planned show as “a huge party” and said he wanted to bring “a lot of my culture” to the stage, according to CBS’s report from an Apple Music press event. The NFL’s announcement quoted him describing the performance as being for “my people, my culture, and our history.” CBS News; NFL announcement.

How much attention did the show generate?
The audience and platform figures show substantial reach and discovery, but none of them is a measure of Bad Bunny’s earnings.
- The NFL reported 128.2 million U.S. viewers for the halftime performance between 8:15 and 8:30 p.m. ET. It reported the full game’s average audience separately, at 124.9 million. NFL.com.
- The NFL said social views reached four billion in the first 24 hours, with more than 55% of NFL social views coming from international markets. It attributed the social-consumption measurement to Ripple Analytics; views are not unique people. NFL.com.
- The NFL reported that Apple Music listening immediately after the performance was seven times higher. That is a platform-listening comparison, not a royalty or revenue figure. NFL.com.
- Apple Music data reported by AP showed Shazam recognitions rose more than 400% during and immediately after the show compared with Bad Bunny’s daily average. The same report said 23 of his songs appeared in Apple Music’s Daily Top 100 Global after the performance, with “DtMF” at No. 1. AP.
- AP’s report said Bad Bunny’s album charted in 155 countries, reached the Top 10 in 128, and ranked No. 1 in 46 on Apple Music. Those are chart placements, not album sales or stream totals. AP.
