Sydney Sweeney’s promotional video showed her and a crew climbing to the Hollywood Sign and draping bras over its letters for her lingerie brand, SYRN. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said it had not authorized the production and had no prior knowledge of it. A general permit to film in the surrounding area, reported by the Los Angeles Times, was a separate matter from the Chamber’s permission for commercial use or access involving the sign.
What happened at the Hollywood Sign?
In a video posted to social media, Sweeney and a crew are shown at the sign at night, placing bras across its letters. ABC News reported that the post tagged SYRN, her lingerie line, and quoted Sweeney saying, “I’m gonna get caught at this rate.” The Los Angeles Times described the footage as a promotional production for the then-upcoming brand.
ABC reported that Sweeney announced the line would be available January 28, 2026. SYRN is a lingerie business; its official shop lists bras, including lace styles, alongside other lingerie products. SYRN’s official shop and its lace-bra page show the brand’s product range.
Did Sydney Sweeney have permission?
No permission from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce was reported. Chamber president and CEO Steve Nissen said the production “was not authorized by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce” and that the Chamber had no prior knowledge of it. He also said anyone intending to use or access the sign for commercial purposes must obtain a license or permission from the Chamber. The Los Angeles Times report of January 26, 2026 and ABC News’s January 27, 2026 report quote or describe the Chamber’s position.

Why a filming permit would not settle the permission question
The Los Angeles Times reported that the crew had a general FilmLA permit to film in the area. That is not the same as the Chamber’s separate license or permission for commercial use or access involving the sign. A permit to film nearby should not be read as permission to climb, touch, alter, or commercially use the landmark.
There was also a reporting caveat: ABC News said FilmLA had not responded to its own question about the permit by publication. The general-permit detail is therefore attributable to the Los Angeles Times, not independently confirmed in ABC’s report. Neither account says an area filming permit granted Chamber authorization.

Was Sweeney charged or investigated?
The available reporting does not establish a later investigation, charge, or case outcome. The Los Angeles Times said an LAPD spokesperson reported no police report had been filed as of January 26, 2026. That is a dated status, not confirmation of what happened afterward. The Guardian noted that media discussion of possible trespass consequences was speculation, not evidence of an established investigation or charge. The Guardian’s January 27 report also covered the Chamber’s objection.
