Was Scar’s real name Taka?
There is no single answer that applies across every Lion King continuity. In its Ask Dave archive, D23 says Taka appeared in a 1994 Lion King book series, then adds that the name “is not recognized as an official name of the character.” That is D23’s description of the book-series reference; it should not be stretched into a ruling about every later story.

Disney’s official coverage of the 2024 film Mufasa: The Lion King uses Taka as the name of a royal heir whom Mufasa meets in the film’s flashback story. So Taka is used for a character connected to Scar in those story contexts, but the sources do not establish it as Scar’s universally accepted birth name.
What does the 1994 animated film say?
D23’s archive synopsis for the 1994 animated film identifies Scar as Simba’s uncle and the antagonist who kills Mufasa and manipulates Simba into exile. The synopsis does not give Scar a name before “Scar,” so it does not answer whether he previously had another name. Read D23’s film entry.

Where does the name Taka appear?
The 1994 book-series reference
D23’s Ask Dave answer says Taka appeared in a 1994 Lion King book series. In the same answer, D23 says the name is not recognized as an official name of the character. The 2024 film’s usage
In Disney’s December 20, 2024 coverage of Mufasa: The Lion King, Taka is described as “the heir to a royal bloodline.” This identifies how the name is used in the newer film’s story; it is a separate reference point from D23’s account of the 1994 books. Read Disney’s film coverage.

What does Taka mean?
The official sources cited here do not establish a translation or etymology for Taka. Claims that it means “dirt,” “trash,” “want,” or “desire” should therefore be treated as unverified, not as a confirmed explanation of the character’s name.
