Frank Sinatra married four times: Nancy Barbato in 1939, Ava Gardner in 1951, Mia Farrow in 1966, and Barbara Marx in 1976. His first three marriages ended in divorce; his marriage to Marx lasted until his death in 1998.

Who were Frank Sinatra’s wives?

Wife Marriage End Children with Sinatra
Nancy Barbato 1939 Divorced in 1951 Three: Nancy, Frank Jr., and Tina
Ava Gardner 1951 Divorced in 1957 None documented in the sources cited here
Mia Farrow 1966 Divorced in 1968 None documented in the sources cited here
Barbara Marx 1976 Lasted until Sinatra’s death in 1998 None documented in the sources cited here

Sinatra’s official timeline says he met Nancy Rose Barbato in Long Branch, New Jersey, in 1934, five years before they married: Frank Sinatra’s official timeline. The Washington Post’s obituary coverage identifies their three children and describes Barbato as a trusted friend who remained part of Sinatra’s life after their divorce: The Washington Post obituary.

Frank Sinatra’s first wife: Nancy Barbato

Sinatra and Barbato married in 1939 and had three children: Nancy, Frank Jr., and Tina. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1951. Barbato later remained a trusted friend and continuing presence in his life, according to her obituary coverage.

Ava Gardner: marriage and separation

After his marriage to Barbato ended, Sinatra married actress Ava Gardner in 1951. They separated within a year, according to one account, but the legal divorce came in 1957. The distinction matters: separation did not end the marriage legally, and the dates do not establish that they lived together continuously from 1951 to 1957.

Mia Farrow: a two-year marriage

Sinatra married actress Mia Farrow in 1966. They divorced in 1968. The biographical sources establish those dates but do not establish a definitive cause for the breakup, so claims about the reasons should not be treated as settled history.

Barbara Marx: his final marriage

Sinatra married Barbara Marx in 1976, and they remained married until his death in 1998. She was formerly married to Zeppo Marx. Some sources use the longer name Barbara Blakeley Marx; the exact wedding day is not established by the cited accounts, so 1976 is the reliable level of precision.

How long were Sinatra’s marriages?

The marriage years give a useful chronology, but they do not tell the full story of each relationship. In particular, Sinatra and Gardner separated within a year of marrying, even though their divorce was not final until 1957. His marriage to Farrow ended in divorce in 1968, and his marriage to Marx continued through the rest of his life.

For career context, CBS includes Sinatra’s role in the 1953 film From Here to Eternity among the milestones in his career revival: CBS’s Frank Sinatra timeline. That milestone fell between the Gardner and Farrow marriages; it does not, by itself, explain the course of either relationship.
