Janice Dean’s absence from Fox & Friends began as a temporary break in 2025, but she later announced she was leaving Fox News. In June 2026, Dean said her multiple sclerosis symptoms had progressed and that the show’s early hours, long periods on her feet and live-broadcast demands had become too difficult to sustain. Fox News aired her farewell on July 10, 2026.
Dean’s 2025 break was not the same as her 2026 departure
In fall 2025, Dean said she was taking a break from work and social media after a planned trip to Rome with her husband and friends. She said she had health issues that required rest and time to heal, but did not identify those issues. At the time, she wrote, “I will be back,” as reported by TV Insider on November 13, 2025.
On June 25, 2026, Dean announced that she was leaving Fox News after 22 years. She returned for an on-air farewell on July 10. Her later departure should not be confused with the earlier break: the 2025 update described a temporary absence, while the 2026 announcement was a decision to leave her role.
Why Dean said she could no longer continue
Dean said she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005. In her June 2026 announcement, she said her symptoms had progressed and that lack of sleep and stress were among the triggers she experienced. She connected those challenges to the demands of her job, rather than presenting them as a general account of how MS affects everyone.

Her farewell and Fox News’ response
Dean addressed viewers in a June 25 social post, writing, “I know so many of you have been wondering where I’ve been.” She thanked people for their comments, prayers and support, and said, “Goodbyes are hard. But they are necessary before you can meet again…” TV Insider reproduced the post.
