Sirens is a Netflix dark comedy about two sisters, a wealthy island household and the power imbalance binding them together. Its all-star cast and a reported 16.7 million views in its first four days made for a striking launch—but that early result is not proof of lasting popularity or a future season.
What is Sirens about?
Over one explosive weekend at the Kells’ island estate, Devon DeWitt arrives worried about her younger sister Simone’s close relationship with Simone’s enigmatic employer, Michaela Kell. Devon is protective of Simone and is also caring for their ailing father in Buffalo. Netflix frames the story around women, power and class, setting the sisters’ Buffalo background against the polished luxury of Cliff House and its island community.

The setup lets the series move between family tension and the strange social world surrounding Michaela. Creator Molly Smith Metzler described Devon as “the metronome of the show,” adding, “She sets the pace, and especially the comedy.” Metzler also called the story “a true dark comedy — and it’s got a Greek mythology vibe.” The mythological echoes help shape the atmosphere; they are an interpretive lens, not a literal premise supplied by Netflix. Netflix’s feature on the series includes Metzler’s comments and details on its setting.

Is Sirens based on a book?
No. The series adapts Elemeno Pea, a play Molly Smith Metzler wrote at Juilliard; it is not based on a book. Netflix announced the series in February 2024, naming Metzler as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Netflix’s announcement identifies the play as its source material.
Where can you watch it, and what kind of series is it?
Sirens is available on Netflix, which classifies it as a limited series, dark comedy, dramedy and series based on a play. Netflix’s page says it can be downloaded for offline viewing. The listing includes English and other audio options as well as subtitles, but availability may vary by territory.
The series was filmed at New York State locations including Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve and Lloyd Harbor. The lavish Cliff House interior was constructed on a sound stage at Steiner Studios in Brooklyn, according to Netflix’s production feature.

There is a strong launch figure behind that prediction, but it needs a date and context. A June 6, 2025 report from Tom’s Guide said Sirens reached No. 1 on Netflix’s most-watched list after its May 22 debut, with 16.7 million views in its first four days. That is evidence of a strong opening, not a current ranking, a long-term audience measure or a guarantee of another season. Tom’s Guide’s report gives the dated launch-period figures.

Netflix also cited the success of Metzler’s earlier series Maid in its 2024 announcement: Maid spent 14 weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV and reached the Top 10 in 93 countries. Those are Maid figures, not evidence of Sirens’s performance.
Will there be a Sirens season 2?
A second season has not been confirmed in the cited coverage. In the June 2025 interview reported by Tom’s Guide, Metzler said she would not rule out returning, but would need to consider whether she could do the characters justice. Netflix labels Sirens a limited series, so viewers should treat another season as uncertain rather than expected.
