The companies announced a new multi-year agreement on November 14, and said restoration was underway that day. YouTube had offered a conditional $20 credit if the channels remained unavailable for an extended period; that was not a blanket refund or proof that every subscriber received money.
Why did YouTube TV lose ESPN and ABC?
YouTube TV and Disney failed to reach a new distribution agreement before their existing arrangement expired. On October 30, 2025, YouTube said Disney had suspended its content on YouTube TV while negotiations continued. The blackout affected Disney programming carried by the service, including ABC and ESPN.
The companies disagreed publicly over the proposed terms. YouTube characterized Disney’s proposal as costly and said it would raise customer prices and limit choice. Those are YouTube’s claims, not independently established findings about Disney’s motives or the fairness of either side’s offer. The clearest confirmed account is that the distribution agreement expired, Disney programming went dark during negotiations, and the companies later reached a new deal.

Is ESPN back on YouTube TV?
Yes. The companies announced their agreement on November 14, 2025, and said channels were being restored that day. YouTube specifically named ABC, ESPN, and FX, and said previously recorded programs in subscribers’ Libraries should also return. Disney said restoration of its full suite of networks and stations, including ABC and ESPN, had begun.

The agreement announcement also described carriage of Disney’s linear portfolio, access to selected ESPN Unlimited programming inside YouTube TV, selected genre-specific packages, and the ability to include the Disney+, Hulu bundle in select YouTube offerings. These were announced elements of the agreement; the announcements do not establish that every feature or package was immediately available to every subscriber.
What happened to the YouTube TV $20 credit?
The $20 was a conditional offer: YouTube said on October 23 that it would offer subscribers a credit if Disney content stayed unavailable for an “extended period.” On October 30, YouTube repeated the offer. It was not a statement that every subscriber had received cash or a full subscription refund, and it was separate from YouTube’s apology after the agreement.

YouTube’s November 14 update said, “We apologize for the disruption and appreciate our subscribers’ patience as we negotiated on their behalf.” The official statements cited here do not specify who qualified for the 2025 credit, how to redeem it, how it would be paid, or whether a claim deadline applies. They also do not establish that the credit remains available now. Read YouTube’s updates for its published statements.
Do not confuse the 2025 offer with the separate 2021 dispute. In December 2021, YouTube said it would reduce its monthly price by $15 while Disney content was off the service and later said it would honor one-time credits for affected members. That was a different dispute and a different remedy. YouTube’s 2021 update

What did the agreement change?
Disney’s November 14 announcement described a multi-year distribution agreement covering its linear portfolio and other provisions: selected ESPN Unlimited programming inside YouTube TV, selected genre-specific packages, and the option to include the Disney+, Hulu bundle in select YouTube offerings. The announcement presents these as agreement elements, not a guarantee that every YouTube TV household would receive every option immediately.
For the immediate blackout, the practical change was that ABC, ESPN, and other Disney channels began returning, alongside access to prior Library recordings that YouTube said should be restored. The companies did not publish a subscriber-by-subscriber restoration schedule in the cited announcements.

What channels were removed from YouTube TV?
The dispute concerned Disney content carried on YouTube TV, rather than just one channel. The companies’ November 14 updates specifically named ABC and ESPN, while YouTube also named FX among the channels expected back during the day. Disney said restoration covered its full suite of networks and stations. Neither cited statement provides a complete channel-by-channel list in the text referenced here, so a more exhaustive list should not be inferred from those examples alone.
Did YouTube’s apology make the $20 credit fair?
The official statements establish that YouTube apologized and offered a conditional $20 credit; they do not establish whether that amount adequately compensated subscribers. No independent measure of the interruption’s value, subscriber losses, or customer satisfaction is provided in the cited material. The credit should therefore be understood as YouTube’s proposed remedy, not an independently calculated valuation of the blackout.

YouTube also named Hulu + Live TV and Fubo as live-TV services that might benefit during the dispute. That mention does not confirm either service’s current local ABC availability, ESPN lineup, price, or fit for a particular household. Those details vary and require current checking before choosing an alternative.
