An October 31, 2025 report said John Cena was expected to face Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series and Gunther in his final WWE match. Those names were reported expectations, not a confirmed WWE card. WWE later named Gunther as Cena’s final opponent, and the match took place on December 13, 2025.
Who were Cena’s final two opponents supposed to be?
The Sportster story, syndicated by Yardbarker on October 31, 2025, reported that Dominik Mysterio was expected to face Cena at Survivor Series and that Gunther was expected to be his opponent in the final match. The report attributed the forecast to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter; Yardbarker’s page does not reproduce the underlying newsletter item or a direct quote from it. The October 31 report
That distinction matters: the story described what was expected at the time, not opponents officially confirmed by WWE. The proposed Gunther match was also framed as a defense of the Intercontinental Championship.
What WWE had announced at the time
On September 30, 2025, WWE announced that Cena’s final match would headline Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. That announcement established the date and venue, but it did not name an opponent. WWE’s event announcement

So the October report’s Gunther prediction matched the eventual final opponent. The report’s Mysterio prediction should remain identified as a prediction; the later confirmation of Gunther does not make the full pair an officially announced October card.
