On May 3, 2025, at the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, TODAY co-host Dylan Dreyer told E! News that Sheinelle Jones was “doing all right” and “hanging in there” while taking time away from the show. Dreyer said colleagues were staying in touch and supporting Jones, but her comments were a brief update—not a medical report or a return-date announcement.
What Dylan Dreyer said about Sheinelle Jones
Speaking with E! News at the Kentucky Derby, Dreyer said, “She’s doing all right,” then added, “She’s hanging in there. We’re praying for her and her family. You know, she’s just going through a tough time with her family.”
Dreyer also described how the TODAY team was supporting Jones: “We talk to her every day. One of us on the team talks to her every single day, and we’re there to support her, and we’ll welcome her back with open arms the second she can get back to us.” Those were Dreyer’s remarks on May 3, 2025; they did not specify when Jones might return. E! News reported the interview.
Why Jones was away from the show
Jones had last appeared on TODAY in December 2024; TV Insider identified her final appearance as December 18. In a January 2025 Instagram statement quoted by the outlet, Jones wrote: “I sincerely appreciate all of you who have reached out while I’ve been absent from the show. I want to share with you that I’m taking time to deal with a family health matter.” She did not identify a diagnosis in that statement. TV Insider’s May 5 report reproduced her words and gave the appearance date.

What happened after the Derby interview
On May 23, 2025, TODAY reported that Jones’s husband, Uche Ojeh, had died after a battle with glioblastoma. That was reported weeks after Dreyer’s May 3 interview, so it should not be read back into Dreyer’s earlier comments. The later report covered Ojeh’s death.
