Hoda Kotb said she would probably prefer a small wedding if she married again—but her comment was hypothetical, not an announcement of an engagement or wedding plans. She made it during a December 11, 2024 discussion of micro-weddings on Today with Hoda and Jenna.
What Hoda Kotb said about a future wedding
Co-host Jenna Bush Hager asked Kotb whether she would want a small or large wedding one day. Kotb replied, “When that day comes, probably a small [wedding], yeah,” according to People’s December 11, 2024 report, published by Yahoo Entertainment. Us Weekly also reported the exchange the following day, placing it in a conversation about micro-weddings.
The wording matters: Kotb spoke conditionally about what she might want. The reports do not describe a current engagement, a prospective spouse, or a wedding being planned.
How the comment fits her relationship history
Kotb and Joel Schiffman announced their separation in January 2022, after an eight-year relationship that included an engagement, according to Us Weekly’s report on the separation and later wedding comment. The “almost three years” framing refers to the time between that announcement and Kotb’s December 2024 television conversation; it does not mean the split happened in late 2024.

In her earlier remarks about Schiffman, Kotb said they had decided they were “better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple,” as Us Weekly recounted. That history provides context, but it does not turn her later answer about a possible wedding into evidence of a new relationship or plans.

Kotb also recalled her wedding to Burzis Kanga, describing it as a destination wedding that “wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge,” according to the People and Us Weekly reports. That was a description of her earlier ceremony, not a prediction about the size or location of any future one.
