What is His & Hers about?
Released on Netflix on January 8, 2026, His & Hers follows Anna Andrews, a news reporter played by Tessa Thompson, and Jack Harper, a detective played by Jon Bernthal. The estranged spouses become entangled in the same murder investigation: Anna returns to her hometown after hearing about the killing, while Jack is assigned to investigate it. Their shared history makes the case personal, and neither is sure the other can be trusted.
The series is set in and around Atlanta and Dahlonega, Georgia. Netflix describes it as a psychological, dark and suspenseful limited series, rated TV-MA. Its official synopsis sets the terms plainly: “There are two sides to every story: HIS & HERS, which means someone is always lying.” Netflix’s title page and Media Center synopsis provide the official premise and classification.
Does the mystery work without giving away the ending?
The central appeal is the collision between two versions of a case. Anna approaches the murder as a reporter; Jack approaches it as the detective responsible for solving it. Their marriage supplies a second layer of uncertainty: the investigation is also a contest over what each knows, remembers and chooses to reveal.

Nick Schager, reviewing the series for The Daily Beast on January 8, 2026 (updated January 13), describes it as repeatedly toying with expectations. He calls the finale “whiplash-inducing” and “laughter-eliciting”—his assessment of its effect, not a universal verdict. That characterization signals a show more interested in reversals than in a purely methodical procedural. To preserve the mystery, the most useful advice is to go in knowing little beyond the setup.

Is His & Hers based on a book?
Yes. The series adapts Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel of the same name. Netflix says the book is set in the British village of Blackdown, while the television adaptation relocates the story to Georgia. That is the established setting change; it does not, by itself, establish how other plot or character details differ. The novel is a natural companion for viewers who want to read the source material, but a detailed comparison requires reading the book.

Feeney welcomed the adaptation in a Netflix Tudum feature, saying: “I love this story with all of my dark heart, I love the TV series too, and everyone who helped make this dream come true.” That is the novelist’s promotional reaction, rather than independent criticism. Netflix Tudum’s feature covers the adaptation, setting and production credits.
How many episodes are there, and who made the series?
His & Hers is a six-episode limited series. Netflix Tudum credits William Oldroyd as creator, director and co-showrunner alongside Dee Johnson; Bill Dubuque is a writer and executive producer. The compact episode count gives the story a defined run rather than an open-ended season order. Netflix’s episode summaries chart an escalation through suspects, painful memories, pressure from the community and a reckoning with the past.
