To run a rotating mantra playlist on YouTube, create a playlist in OBS Studio’s VLC Video source, enable Loop Playlist, connect OBS to YouTube with your stream URL and stream key, then keep the computer and network online. Enable Shuffle Playlist as well if you want the tracks to play in a changing order. What you need before setting up the stream
- Your media: gather the audio and video files, artwork, and background footage you plan to use. Confirm you have the rights to every component, including the music composition and recording.
- OBS Studio and VLC: OBS’s VLC Video source uses VLC to play media playlists. OBS supports Windows, macOS, and Linux for this source. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream: YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- A computer and stable internet connection: for the OBS method, both must remain on and connected for the duration of the broadcast.
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions make the creator responsible for having all necessary rights to the live content, including music licensing rights.
Create and loop the playlist in OBS
- Install OBS Studio and VLC. Match the VLC architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- Open OBS and add a VLC Video source to the scene you will stream. Use the source’s media playlist controls to add the video files you want played.
- Enable Loop Playlist. OBS restarts the list after the final item, so playback continues through the playlist repeatedly.
- Optionally enable Shuffle Playlist to randomize item order. Choose loop without shuffle when a fixed devotional progression matters; choose both when sequence is not important and you want variety.
- Check the scene’s video and audio output before going live. Confirm the VLC source plays the intended files and that the audio is audible in OBS.

Connect OBS to YouTube and go live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and schedule a stream or create one. Scheduling can let viewers set reminders and gives you an event to promote.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube’s live-stream setup.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter or select the stream URL and key as required by the connection method. Treat the stream key as a password; do not share it publicly.
- Start streaming from OBS. Check the Live Control Room to confirm YouTube is receiving the feed, then monitor OBS and the dashboard during the broadcast.
- Keep the computer and internet connection running. If the computer sleeps, OBS stops, or the connection fails, the feed may stop reaching YouTube.

Protect the stream from copyright interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder image; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Having permission to use a track does not by itself ensure uninterrupted playback: YouTube says a creator who has licensed material should ask the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist.

- Get permission for the specific recordings, compositions, artwork, and footage in the playlist.
- Keep records of licenses and any relevant permission for livestream use.
- If a licensed track triggers a match, contact the rights holder about allowlisting your channel rather than assuming the license prevents automated interruption.

Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a stream that runs for 24 hours. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping the full broadcast matters, record a local copy and check that the recording is working before leaving the stream unattended.

Can a looped mantra livestream be monetized?
Being able to loop a playlist technically does not make it eligible for monetization. YouTube’s policy says repetitive or mass-produced content is “inauthentic content” and is ineligible for monetization. A channel should offer original value rather than relying on an unchanged loop, and should check the current YouTube channel monetization policies before planning revenue around a stream.

Can OBS shuffle a mantra playlist automatically?
Yes. Add the files to an OBS VLC Video source and enable Shuffle Playlist; enable Loop Playlist too if the list should restart after it ends.

Does having permission guarantee YouTube will not interrupt a live stream?
No. A rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist to avoid automated interruptions.
