A mini PC can run a YouTube podcast stream using OBS Studio, provided it can sustain your chosen scene, encoder settings and upload connection. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder stream, add its stream URL and key in OBS, test the audio and preview, then go live. The exact mini PC model and your internet connection matter more than a universal CPU or RAM minimum: OBS warns that meeting its system requirements does not guarantee streaming performance.
What you need for a mini PC podcast stream
The mini PC is the encoder host: OBS combines your microphone, optional camera and visual elements, then sends the program to YouTube Live. A straightforward solo show can use a USB microphone, headphones and a static title card; add a webcam if you want viewers to see the host. For several speakers or XLR microphones, a mixer or audio interface may be useful, but neither is required for every podcast.
- A mini PC running a supported operating system and a current OBS Studio version.
- A microphone with a compatible input and driver; headphones help you monitor the mix.
- A webcam or capture device only if the show needs a live picture.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the full stream bitrate plus headroom.
Start with a simple OBS scene: microphone, a static cover image, and perhaps one camera. Browser sources, animated overlays, multiple cameras and local recording all add workload. Add them only after the basic scene works reliably. OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard can provide a starting point based on hardware and network conditions, but test the finished scene rather than treating the wizard as a performance guarantee.
Choose settings your PC and connection can sustain
For a spoken-word show, 30 fps is usually a sensible starting point; a static image or simple camera scene does not inherently need 60 fps. Choose resolution based on what the mini PC can encode consistently and what your tested upload can support. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 6 Mbps video bitrate for 720p30 and 10 Mbps for 1080p30. These are recommended video bitrates, not a guarantee that a particular PC or connection will handle the stream. If uncertain, test at 720p30 first.

| Setting | Starting guidance |
|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS where available; YouTube describes it as an encrypted extension to RTMP. |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265 or AV1, where supported by the encoder and YouTube ingest. |
| Rate control | CBR. |
| Frame rate | Up to 60 fps is supported; choose a rate the mini PC can sustain. For a basic podcast scene, test 30 fps first. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio | AAC or MP3; YouTube’s stereo guidance is 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. |
| Video bitrate examples | H.264 720p30: 6 Mbps recommended; H.264 1080p30: 10 Mbps recommended. |
For a compatible Intel system, OBS documents Quick Sync hardware encoding. Hardware encoding may reduce CPU load, but support and image quality vary by encoder generation. Check that your mini PC’s graphics hardware supports the selected encoder and codec; if not, use a software encoder setting that performs reliably in a full test. OBS says CPU needs vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity, so there is no evidence-based universal mini PC specification to promise.
Measure upload capacity in India before choosing a bitrate
Use the upload result, not the advertised download speed, to judge whether the stream is viable. YouTube recommends keeping 20% room above the total stream bitrate, and warns that other users sharing a home or office connection can reduce what is available to your stream. Test from the actual venue, at the time the podcast will run, with the planned OBS settings and normal network users present. This guide does not establish a specific Indian ISP threshold or a universal upload speed for India.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
For example, a 6 Mbps video setting is not the entire connection budget: audio and other stream overhead also consume bandwidth, and YouTube’s 20% headroom recommendation applies to the total bitrate. If the connection fluctuates, lower the video bitrate or resolution and test again. If practical, a wired Ethernet connection avoids depending on Wi-Fi signal quality, but it is not a substitute for measuring actual upload stability.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Check channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction during the previous 90 days. Confirm that live streaming is available before planning a show.
- Create or schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live. Use the Stream tab for a new encoder event or Manage to schedule one. Scheduling can create an upcoming watch page and reminders.
- Copy the stream details. In the event’s stream settings, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: it identifies where the encoder sends the feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Do not publish it or share it with guests.
- Enter them in OBS. Open OBS’s streaming settings, select YouTube or a custom server as appropriate, then enter the URL and key. Choose RTMPS when available.
- Set the scene and output. Select the intended microphone, camera or cover art. Apply the tested resolution, frame rate, CBR bitrate and two-second keyframe interval. Check that OBS’s audio meter responds when you speak.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming in OBS. Wait for the feed to appear in YouTube Live Control Room, then check picture, speech level, sync and stream health messages.
- Go live and monitor the show. If using the preview workflow, click Go live in Live Control Room after confirming the feed. Watch stream health and listen for audio problems during the event.
- End cleanly. Stop the live stream in YouTube, then stop the encoder in OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but verify the event’s archive in Studio rather than relying on retention without checking.
Preflight for a podcast, not just a test pattern
Prepare the event well ahead of airtime. YouTube advises creating or scheduling the stream at least two hours before the event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it. Use that time for a realistic rehearsal, including speech, guest audio, movement and scene changes that resemble the actual show.

Common problems and practical fixes
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Recheck the stream URL and key, confirm the correct event is open, and verify that OBS is actually streaming. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube and update OBS.
- Preview is missing or keeps buffering: Lower resolution or bitrate, check upload stability at the venue, and reduce competing network use. Confirm OBS output settings match the tested configuration.
- Video stutters or OBS struggles: Simplify the scene, reduce resolution or frame rate, and test a supported hardware encoder if available. Avoid adding browser sources or multiple cameras until the basic scene is stable.
- Voice is silent or distorted: Select the correct input device in OBS, check its operating-system permissions and physical connection, watch the audio meter, and listen to a rehearsal recording or preview. Reduce the input level if speech clips.
- Voice and picture do not stay in sync: Test the full setup before the show and keep unnecessary processing or devices out of the signal chain. Recheck sync after changing capture devices or scene sources.
- The connection drops during the show: YouTube stream health can help identify delivery problems. Restore a stable connection, then confirm in Live Control Room whether the event is still receiving the encoder feed before resuming.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your podcast is a pre-recorded video rather than a live microphone-and-camera show, StreamNeo can keep an uploaded video or playlist looping as a YouTube live stream. It does not capture a live camera or microphone feed, so OBS on the mini PC remains the appropriate DIY route for a live recording session.
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo runs the loop from the cloud.
That means nothing has to stay on at home, the uploaded file streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. Learn about StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
