Goosebumps: The Vanishing is the official title of what many viewers call Goosebumps Season 2. It is an anthology follow-up with a new setting, story and cast, centered on twins Cece and Devin Brewer and a mystery tied to four teenagers who disappeared in 1994.
Is Goosebumps: The Vanishing a new story?
Yes. Disney describes the second installment as a new anthology story rather than a continuation focused on the first season’s characters. This season moves to Gravesend, Brooklyn, where fraternal twins Cece and Devin spend the summer with their divorced father, Anthony Brewer. They and their friends are drawn into a mystery connected to four teenagers who vanished in 1994. The story’s resolution is not needed to understand the cast and setup.
The eight episodes premiered together on January 10, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu. Disney lists the series as anthology and horror, rates it TV-14, and warns that flashing-light sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers. Catalog availability varies by region. How the Brewer family and their friends fit together
Cece and Devin are the twin leads
Cece and Devin are fraternal twins, but they approach school and expectations differently: Cece is naturally talented and committed to debate, while Devin is smart but less inclined to put in the effort others expect. Their summer in Brooklyn puts them at the center of the new mystery.

Anthony’s past adds a family connection to the mystery
Anthony is raising the twins while managing the demands of a changed family life and caring for an aging parent. His teenage brother’s mysterious disappearance gives the season’s missing-person premise a personal echo without making Anthony’s experience identical to the 1994 case.
Alex, CJ and Frankie bring the local perspective
Alex, CJ and Frankie are among the twins’ friends caught up in the threat and the investigation. Alex’s mother, detective Jen Diaz, has her own connection to neighborhood safety and a tragic adolescent event. CJ is closely tied to local life through his family’s restaurant and deliveries, while Frankie is balancing her ambitions with family loss and absence.

Which Goosebumps books inspired the season?
Disney says The Vanishing draws on elements from several books: Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door, Welcome to Camp Nightmare and others. That is a multi-book inspiration, not confirmation that the season adapts any one complete novel.
