But that is evidence of franchise potential, not proof that Netflix has approved another film. In July 2025, Snyder described taking a break from the world and said its future was still undecided.
What the director’s cuts add to the case
Netflix said the R-rated director’s cuts were planned during production and included separately shot scenes, rather than being assembled later from only the footage in the released versions. The cuts add creatures, history, mythology and action sequences. Both arrived on Netflix on August 2, 2024.
Snyder described the original production ambition to Netflix this way: “Let’s make just two movies back-to-back because it’s too epic to do in one film.” He also said the extended-cut plan involved shooting different scenes—“Stuff that people just don’t do.” The cuts therefore show an unusually expansive approach to the two existing films. They do not, by themselves, demonstrate that the story needs or has been granted a third film.

Runtime comparisons are not established in the cited material, so there is no sound basis here for a minute-by-minute comparison. The most meaningful distinction for viewers is whether they want the additional story and mythology, and whether the mature-content rating in their territory suits them.

Was Rebel Moon designed as a franchise?
It was designed as a two-film saga. Netflix’s 2021 announcement introduced a threatened colony recruiting warriors, and the first film leads into Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver. That establishes a planned foundation and continuation for the original pair. A two-part plan is not the same as approval for further installments.
Netflix has also documented extensions beyond the films. Rebel Moon: Songs of the Rebellion is a five-song companion EP curated around the two movies. Netflix’s Tudum coverage also points to The Seneschal, a narrative fiction podcast about the history of the robot warriors. Those projects indicate that the setting has been used across formats; they do not establish that additional films are in development.

Has Netflix confirmed another Rebel Moon movie?
No additional film is established by the sources cited here. In a GamesRadar report published July 17, 2025, Snyder said he was working on a Netflix movie about LAPD SWAT and was going to let the Rebel Moon world “boil for a minute.” He added “we’ll see” about returning. That is evidence of a pause and uncertainty at that time—not an announcement of renewal, and not proof of cancellation.

They support a narrower conclusion: Snyder and Netflix built the original two-film story with substantial additional material and a wider mythology, while Netflix has also presented official music and podcast extensions. That is a credible creative argument for more stories. The stronger claim that the cuts prove Netflix should—or will—make more films goes beyond the evidence.

Nor can viewership settle that question from the information available here: no named audience-performance figure specific to the director’s cuts is established.
