For an Android phone stream that needs background broadcasting and a way to resume the same YouTube live session after a device-side stop, PRISM Live Studio has the clearer documented workflow. CameraFi Live is the better-documented fit when your setup depends on an external USB camera or capture card. Neither app is established as a dependable unattended 24/7 streaming system, so a phone-only setup needs a full-duration test and a separate plan for power, heat, connectivity, recovery, and recordings.

In short, choose PRISM for documented Android background use and session resumption; choose CameraFi when external video hardware is central. The CameraFi listing also names image, video, audio, text, and web overlays, presets, and multistream through Restream. PRISM describes itself as an all-in-one streaming and screen-customization app. The available sources do not provide a controlled, feature-by-feature comparison, so check the exact production workflow you need.
Can PRISM Live Studio stream in the background?
PRISM documents background broadcasting on Android. Its guide says to enable “Allow display over other apps” for this workflow. That setting permits the documented background behavior; it should not be interpreted as protection from an Android process being stopped, a device overheating, a charger or network failing, or other interruptions.
PRISM explicitly says that iOS apps do not support background live broadcasting because of platform OS policies. If you need the app to keep sending video while you switch apps, the documented background option is therefore an Android workflow, not an iPhone guarantee.

Can you resume the same YouTube live stream?
PRISM’s YouTube guidance describes a case where streaming ends on the device while the YouTube live session remains on air, so the same live link can be resumed. PRISM’s guide states that the resume feature is supported for channels with more than 50 subscribers. Check the guide and your channel’s current eligibility before building a workflow around it.
This is a recovery path for a particular interruption, not evidence that PRISM will keep a phone streaming around the clock. A long-running channel still needs a plan for app or device shutdown, power loss, mobile or Wi-Fi failure, and restarting the stream.

Why a phone is a difficult 24/7 encoder
A phone capturing video, applying effects, and sending a live stream has to sustain those workloads for long periods. PRISM’s overheating guidance explains that these tasks use device resources and recommends reducing heat-generating conditions. A cooling accessory may help reduce heat, but it does not establish that a phone is suitable for unattended 24/7 encoding. A fan can also introduce noise that the stream’s microphone picks up. - Test the actual phone, charger, app settings, network, and room conditions for the duration you intend to run.
- Check for heat-related interruptions and whether the device continues charging reliably under sustained load.
- If you add a fan, listen to the stream audio for fan noise as well as checking device temperature.
- Do not treat background mode or session resumption as a substitute for a recovery plan.
Plan for YouTube archives separately
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends a local recording as a backup. If an archive matters for a 24/7 channel, divide programming into shorter streams and maintain a separate local recording process. How to choose and test your setup
- Choose by the defining requirement. Use PRISM as the candidate for documented Android background broadcasting and YouTube session resumption. Use CameraFi when you need its listed external USB camera or capture-card workflow. Confirm compatibility for your specific hardware before relying on it.
- Test the full production chain. Run the intended phone, app, video source, overlays, audio, power arrangement, and network together. A short successful test does not establish continuous-duty reliability.
- Test recovery deliberately. Determine what happens if the app closes, the network drops, or the device stops sending video. Confirm whether your channel can use PRISM’s documented resume workflow and how you will restart if it cannot.
