Find out where the picture disappears
Play the video on your phone and compare what you see there with the YouTube stream. If possible, check the stream from a separate device or browser so you are not relying only on the broadcasting phone’s preview.

This comparison is a practical diagnostic, not a CameraFi-prescribed fix. CameraFi’s official materials reviewed do not explain why a locally visible video might appear black in the outgoing stream.
Confirm CameraFi Live is using the right mode
CameraFi Live offers camera and screen modes. Camera mode broadcasts from the phone or an external camera; Screen mode is intended to broadcast the phone screen, including apps and games. For a workflow where you want the stream to show video playing on the phone, check that you started in Screen mode rather than Camera mode.

- Open CameraFi Live and choose Screen mode.
- Select YouTube as the destination and follow CameraFi’s prompts to start the screen broadcast.
- Check the phone’s local playback and the stream from another device to see whether the picture appears in either place.
CameraFi’s screen-broadcast FAQ says this mode is supported only on Android (FAQ information dated December 20, 2024). Confirm that your phone and the apps involved are compatible; behavior should not be assumed to be identical across every device and app. CameraFi also documents Android OS and target-app limitations for internal-audio streaming. If video playback is black on the phone too
Try YouTube’s general playback checks if the video is being played in the YouTube app. These are general playback suggestions, not fixes documented specifically for CameraFi screen capture:

- Switch to another internet connection, if available.
- Clear the YouTube app cache.
- Update the relevant software.
- Restart the phone and try playback again.
- Test on another supported device, if one is available.
If the video is playing in another app, note whether playback works there outside the stream. YouTube’s general playback guidance does not establish that these steps will fix a CameraFi broadcast. YouTube playback troubleshooting.
If playback works locally but the broadcast is black
When the picture is visible on the phone but black on YouTube, the official guidance reviewed does not establish a particular cause. Avoid treating codec, DRM, or hardware explanations as confirmed. Before contacting support, write down:

- Phone make and model and Android version.
- CameraFi Live version and the app playing the video.
- Whether the video is visible in CameraFi’s preview and on the phone outside CameraFi.
- Whether viewers receive audio, video, both, or neither.
- Whether the symptom occurs with one video or more than one.

Keep copyright and policy warnings separate
A black captured picture and a YouTube copyright or Community Guidelines warning are different problems. If YouTube reports a warning, check the notice and follow YouTube’s relevant appeal or policy guidance; do not assume that a rights or policy warning explains the black picture. CameraFi’s FAQ directs users to YouTube Help for copyright and Community Guidelines strikes.

About older CameraFi screen-streaming instructions
CameraFi’s screen-streaming guide from January 30, 2020 describes choosing Screen mode, selecting a destination such as YouTube, starting, and going live. It also states that vertical broadcasting was available only in YouTube Event mode in that documented workflow.
