For a 24/7 YouTube stream that must loop prerecorded files, FFmpeg is the better-documented choice for playlist automation: its official documentation describes both infinite input looping and media concatenation. PRISM Live Studio is a Windows app with production features, but YouTube’s listing does not establish that it can automatically advance and repeat a playlist unattended. Neither tool has proven superior uptime in a sourced head-to-head test. If you want to avoid keeping a local computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: it loops uploaded videos to YouTube, with the first day free and no card.
Which should you choose?
| Need | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Scripted, repeatable playout of prerecorded files | FFmpeg | Its documentation covers infinite input looping and separate concatenation workflows. You must configure and test the pipeline yourself. |
| Graphical production tools such as effects, drawing, or virtual camera | PRISM Live Studio | YouTube lists these features for the Windows app. The listing does not establish unattended playlist automation. |
| Continuous operation without leaving your own computer running | StreamNeo | It loops uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube; it does not depend on a home computer staying on. |
Choose based on the workflow you can verify, not on an assumed reliability advantage. The reviewed sources contain no comparative uptime test for PRISM and FFmpeg. For either local option, test the actual playlist, target settings, machine, and network for an extended period, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators.
What PRISM Live Studio and FFmpeg are documented to do
FFmpeg: more explicit control over looping and concatenation
FFmpeg’s official documentation says, “Loop 0 means no loop, loop -1 means infinite loop.” That option applies to an input. For a sequence of separate files, FFmpeg’s FAQ describes the concat filter for re-encoding workflows and points to the concat demuxer for suitable file-level concatenation. These are building blocks, not a turnkey playlist service or an uptime guarantee. The concat demuxer requires compatible streams, so files that differ may need to be normalized or handled through another workflow. Test transitions and audio continuity with the files you plan to use. FFmpeg documentation · FFmpeg FAQ
PRISM Live Studio: graphical production features, playlist behavior to verify
YouTube’s encoder directory lists PRISM Live Studio for Windows and describes effects, drawing, virtual background, virtual camera, and mobile-app integration. It says the listed features are provided at no charge. The directory does not specify a 24/7 playlist mode, infinite repeat behavior, crash recovery, or comparative uptime. Before relying on PRISM for unattended playout, check the current app version for automatic file advancement, repeat behavior, and recovery after a disconnection. YouTube encoder directory

- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Compare the whole operating workflow
- Playlist behavior: Confirm that files advance in the required order and repeat at the end. Check transitions, silence or gaps, and what happens if a file fails.
- Media compatibility: With FFmpeg’s concat demuxer, compatible streams are required. Test the real files, and normalize them if necessary. Do not assume a playlist of arbitrary formats will join seamlessly.
- Production needs: PRISM’s listed graphical features may suit a production that needs effects or a virtual camera. FFmpeg suits operators who want command-line control over inputs and output. The sources do not establish feature parity for playlist automation.
- Runtime and recovery: A local encoder uses the computer’s processor and depends on its power and network. Decide how you will notice a stopped process or unhealthy stream and restart it. YouTube notes that cloud encoders can reduce local-machine load, while local encoders provide direct control. YouTube encoder guidance
- Cost and limits: The reviewed sources do not provide a comparable total-cost analysis for these tools. Check current software or service pricing and limits before committing.
Set up and test a YouTube live stream
- Enable live streaming. Verify your YouTube channel and enable live streaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so do this before a scheduled launch. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
- Create or select the broadcast. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream. YouTube: Set up your encoder
- Match encoder settings to the selected ingestion mode. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists CBR, H.264, HEVC, and AV1 in the applicable settings context. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Select settings supported by both your encoder and ingestion mode; do not assume every codec or option is available in every configuration. YouTube encoder settings
- Choose an ingestion protocol deliberately. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. HLS is a separate ingestion option with additional requirements; its rolling ingestion playlist must have no more than five outstanding segments, among other requirements. That limit concerns the HLS feed sent to YouTube, not your playlist of prerecorded program videos. YouTube HLS ingestion instructions
- Run a test before going public. Preview the stream, check audio and video quality, and watch YouTube’s stream-health messages. Leave upload capacity above the stream bitrate rather than using all available bandwidth. Test the full playlist and a sufficiently long run to expose transition, network, and recovery problems. Plan for archives and rights
Do not rely on one complete YouTube archive for an uninterrupted day
YouTube automatically archives streams that are under 12 hours. A continuous stream lasting longer may not be preserved as one complete archive, so arrange separate capture or recording if you need the entire event saved. YouTube: Archive live streams
Confirm you have rights to every item in the playlist
A prerecorded playlist still needs to comply with YouTube’s copyright rules and applicable monetization policies. Confirm the rights or licenses for each video, music track, and other included material; permission to stream one item does not necessarily cover every use or territory. Avoid treating a long-running stream as a way around claims or restrictions. Review YouTube’s copyright policies and channel monetization policies before broadcasting.

Troubleshoot common failures
- The stream will not start: Check that live streaming is enabled, including any first-time activation delay; verify the selected YouTube broadcast, stream URL, and key; then confirm the encoder is using settings supported by the chosen ingestion mode.
- The stream starts but YouTube reports poor health: Check the encoder’s output and network stability, reduce competing upload traffic, and leave more bandwidth headroom. Review YouTube’s health messages rather than assuming the playlist itself is at fault.
- FFmpeg stops at a file transition or produces broken output: Check concat-demuxer stream compatibility and inspect the source files. Normalize incompatible media or use a concat-filter workflow that re-encodes; test the transition and audio before returning to an unattended run.
- PRISM does not advance or repeat files as needed: Verify that the current app version supports the exact playlist and repeat behavior required. YouTube’s encoder listing does not document those controls, so do not assume they are present.
- The stream ends after a local interruption: A local encoder depends on the computer, power, and network. Decide in advance how you will detect a process exit or dropped connection and restart it, then test that recovery plan.
- The full-day broadcast is missing from archives: YouTube’s automatic archive behavior covers streams under 12 hours. Use separate capture or recording when the whole longer event must be retained.
