You can run playback on church equipment or use a cloud service. First enable live streaming, confirm rights to every recording and included media, then test the stream and plan a separate archive: YouTube may not capture broadcasts longer than 12 hours.
Before you start: prepare the church channel
- Check eligibility and enable live streaming. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Gather the sermon recordings. Organize the Spanish-language files in the order you want them played. Confirm the church has the necessary rights to the recordings and every included song, reading, image, or other third-party material.
- Choose where playback will run. A local encoder uses church equipment that must stay powered, connected, and operating. Cloud playout sends uploaded recordings from a provider’s service, so a dedicated church computer need not remain online for playback.
Choose a playback method
| Consideration | Local encoder | Cloud playout |
|---|---|---|
| Where video plays and is sent | Church computer or hardware encoder | Provider’s cloud service |
| What must stay available | Equipment, power, network connection, and operating encoder | A dedicated church computer need not stay online for playback |
| Who manages operation | Church team manages encoder settings and ongoing operation | Church team uploads media and configures the service and destination |
| What to check | Compatibility, power and network continuity, operator coverage, and a recording backup | Supported destinations, continuous-playback features, storage limits, pricing, and service terms |
YouTube’s encoder guide describes software and hardware encoders, as well as cloud-based continuous prerecorded streaming. It lists Gyre as a cloud option and AJA HELO Plus as a hardware example; those listings are starting points, not endorsements or proof that a particular option suits your church. YouTube’s documentation does not establish a universal cost or reliability winner. Check each option’s current capabilities and terms before choosing. See YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Set up a YouTube Live stream with an encoder
- Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream or schedule one for the intended channel and time. YouTube’s setup guide covers encoder-based streams.
- Copy the stream destination details. In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the stream.
- Load and test the sermon playlist. Check that recordings play in the right order, picture and audio are present, and the feed appears as expected on YouTube before relying on it for continuous viewing. Keep a local recording or other backup if preserving the complete broadcast matters.
- Start the encoder and confirm the live feed. Use the encoder’s connection status and YouTube Studio’s stream preview to check that the feed reaches YouTube. Exact encoder controls vary by software or hardware; use the chosen encoder’s current instructions for its destination and playlist settings.
Rights, copyright, and YouTube rules
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, the stream may be interrupted or terminated when matching content continues. If the church has a license for third-party material that is detected, YouTube says the rights holder may need to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance before broadcasting.
YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must hold the necessary rights for live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. That is YouTube’s platform requirement, not legal advice about a church’s particular licenses. Confirm permissions for sermon recordings, music, readings, and other media before putting them on air. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.

Plan for a separate replay archive
Continuous live viewing and a complete replay archive are different needs. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the church needs a dependable full-length record, keep a separate local recording or publish individual sermons as regular videos. YouTube also recommends keeping a local archive backup. See its live-stream archive guidance.
