Before you start: channel access, content rights, and format
Enable live streaming in advance
Verify your YouTube channel and enable live streaming before the planned start. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Its live-stream requirements include no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
Clear every part of the devotional program
Make a rights list for each song, recording, performance, image, video, and looped segment. A devotional purpose does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast someone else’s recording. A composition and a particular sound recording can have different rights owners; arrangements, performances, visuals, territories, the live broadcast, and the replay may also require separate permissions.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. It may display a placeholder, warn the creator, or interrupt or terminate the feed if a match remains. A licence alone may not prevent an interruption: where applicable, ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Do not assume a bhajan, a public-domain composition, or a recording found on another YouTube channel is cleared for your stream. Confirm the permissions for the exact material and intended territories with the relevant rights holders.
Choose horizontal, vertical, or both
YouTube Live Control Room supports horizontal 16:9 and vertical 9:16 formats, including dual streaming. Vertical streams may be discoverable in the Shorts feed, but the vertical format cannot be added after the stream has started. Decide before going live and inspect the framing: a centered crop can cut off devotional text, subtitles, or important imagery. Choose how to play and encode the devotional feed
For a prepared playlist or rendered visual, use an encoder: software on a computer, standalone hardware, or a cloud service. The source and encoder need to keep operating and sending a feed for the channel to remain live; opening Live Control Room alone does not play the content. The setup that fits depends on whether your material is prerecorded or live, whether a computer can stay on, what inputs or overlays you need, and how you will handle monitoring, interruptions, and recording.
- Software: OBS is listed in YouTube’s verified encoder directory as free, open-source streaming software. It is a no-hardware route, but your computer and network still need to sustain the feed.
- Standalone hardware: YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as a hardware encoder that can stream directly to YouTube and schedule prerecorded media. Consider hardware if you need a dedicated device; it may be more than a basic prepared-video stream requires.
- Cloud playout: YouTube’s directory lists Gyre as a cloud-based service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. Investigate current capabilities, terms, and pricing directly before choosing it.

Create the stream in YouTube Live Control Room
- Open Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Open the Stream tab and create a new stream or reuse a previous configuration. Enter the title and description, set visibility, and schedule the broadcast if needed.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the stream URL (server) and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the encoder’s streaming settings. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not be able to send a feed to your channel.
- Start the encoder: Start playback and encoding. Check that YouTube receives the feed and that the incoming preview appears in Live Control Room.
- Start the YouTube broadcast: For a scheduled stream, when the preview is ready, select Go Live in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on the stream health indicator and listen to the outgoing audio; a visible preview does not by itself confirm that every part of the program is correct.
- Test first: Run an unlisted test to check the audio, visuals, framing, connection, and encoder workflow before a public start. YouTube for Artists recommends unlisted testing, particularly for higher-production events.
- For dual format: Configure horizontal and vertical output before going live, connect each using its corresponding key, and inspect both layouts. Adjust the vertical composition so captions and devotional imagery remain visible.
Keep a 24/7 schedule without relying on one long archive
Understand what “24/7” requires
“24/7” describes the intended availability, not a YouTube or encoder uptime guarantee. A continuous local setup depends on the source media, computer or hardware encoder, and network connection continuing to work. Monitor interruptions and have a recovery plan. If you use a cloud playout service, check how it handles reconnects and how you can verify that the feed has resumed.
Plan around the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. Do not rely on a single stream longer than 12 hours to produce a complete replay. If the full devotional program needs to remain available afterward, plan shorter broadcasts and keep a separate local recording; check current Studio behavior because archive handling can change.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
- Live streaming is not enabled: Verify the channel and enable live streaming ahead of time. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; check whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction.
- No preview appears: Confirm the encoder is running and that you copied the correct stream URL and key from the intended Live Control Room event. Check the encoder’s connection and whether it is sending video and audio.
- The scheduled event is not public: Starting the encoder sends the feed, but for a scheduled stream you still need to select Go Live in Live Control Room when the preview is ready.
- The broadcast is interrupted over music: A Content ID match can stop a live feed even where you believe you have a licence. Confirm rights for the exact recording and ask the relevant rights holder about channel allowlisting; do not simply restart with the same uncleared material.
- Text or imagery is cut off in vertical view: Review the 9:16 composition and adjust it before starting. You cannot add the vertical format once the stream is underway.
- The replay is incomplete or missing: Streams longer than 12 hours are not assured a complete automatic archive. Use shorter sessions and a separate recording when a full replay matters.

YouTube for Artists reported that over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025. That platform-wide figure is not specific to India, Hindi-language programming, or devotional audiences, so it should not be treated as a forecast for a particular channel.
