Carpenter hosted and performed two songs on the season 51 episode, making it a mix of strong comic material and moments that did not land as cleanly.
Which Sabrina Carpenter episode is this?
This recap covers the October 18, 2025 episode of Saturday Night Live, the third episode of season 51. Carpenter served as both host and musical guest. Peacock’s season guide identifies it as her first time hosting and her second appearance as musical guest: Peacock’s season 51 host and musical guest guide. The episode was announced by SNL’s official hosting announcement.
It is not the May 18, 2024 episode, which Jake Gyllenhaal hosted while Carpenter appeared as musical guest.
Best moment: Carpenter makes the album-cover backlash part of the joke
The monologue gave Carpenter the strongest showcase for her hosting persona. She addressed the criticism surrounding the cover art for her album Man’s Best Friend and made the backlash itself the subject of a self-aware bit. Rather than avoid the controversy, she used it to set a playful tone for the evening. The contemporaneous People recap republished by AOL singled out the monologue as one of the episode’s highlights.

Best sketch: the preteen podcast boys
Carpenter, Chloe Fineman, Jane Wickline and Veronika Slowikowska played 12-year-old boys on a podcast, with James Austin Johnson appearing as Donald Trump. The sketch’s appeal came from the cast’s commitment to the characters and the contrast between their boyish manner and the podcast format. The AOL recap named it among the episode’s best sketches.
The episode also produced an official clip, “Birthday Party”, for viewers who want to revisit one of its sketches.

Worst moment: the Domingo cold open felt overfamiliar
The cold open returned to the Domingo sketch for a fourth time. In the AOL recap’s subjective assessment, it was the episode’s weakest moment; the writer also reported that viewers complained the premise had become repetitive. That is an editorial judgment and a reported reaction, not a measured audience consensus. The contrast with the preteen podcast sketch was a matter of freshness: the returning premise had less novelty to draw on.
Oops moment: a reported microphone cutout
During the Girlboss seminar sketch, Carpenter’s microphone appeared to cut out while she continued speaking, according to the AOL recap. The report identifies an apparent production hiccup, but does not establish its technical cause. It is best understood as a moment viewers noticed, rather than evidence of a confirmed equipment failure.

Music: “Manchild” and “Nobody’s Son”
Carpenter performed “Manchild” and “Nobody’s Son.” The AOL recap reported that “Nobody’s Son” included an uncensored explicit lyric on the East Coast broadcast, while West Coast viewers heard a brief silence because of the broadcast delay. That regional difference is as reported in the recap; it does not establish what every viewer heard across all feeds.

Carpenter’s monologue and the preteen podcast sketch gave her room to play with public perception and character comedy. The Domingo cold open was the least fresh element by the recap’s standards, while the apparent mic cutout briefly disrupted the Girlboss sketch. The episode’s most distinctive performance detail came from the reported East Coast and West Coast difference during “Nobody’s Son.”
