For a YouTube news channel that must keep recorded clips playing around the clock, start with a cloud service built for continuous prerecorded playback—not a tool that only schedules individual streams. Restream officially supports streaming prerecorded video and scheduling it to YouTube, but its documentation does not establish uninterrupted playlist looping. The best fit depends on whether you need continuous playout, multiple destinations, a live-production studio, or the control of running your own encoder.
What to look for in a Restream alternative
“Stream prerecorded video” and “keep a channel on air 24/7” are different requirements. A service may let you schedule a single prerecorded event without providing a continuously repeating playlist. Before choosing, confirm that its current plan supports your operating pattern and intended YouTube destination.
- Continuous playback: Can it loop a playlist without a presenter, or does it schedule separate events?
- Operating model: Does playback run in the provider’s cloud, or does a computer and internet connection at your location have to stay online?
- Destinations: Is YouTube the only destination you need, or do you require multistreaming or custom RTMP?
- Production needs: Do you need guests, overlays, or a browser studio, or only reliable playback of recorded clips?
- Plan limits and cost: Check stream slots, duration, resolution, storage, destinations, and the cost at the level of continuous use you require.
- Editorial clearance: Confirm that your channel has the rights to each clip and its audio before putting it on air.
Restream: useful for scheduled prerecorded streams, but verify continuous playback
Restream’s pricing page describes multistreaming, custom RTMP destinations, third-party software or Restream Studio inputs, and Upload & Stream for prerecorded content. It says the free plan can select two channels. Restream also says Full HD in Studio is available on Professional, while third-party software has no resolution restriction from Restream itself; the destination platform may still impose limits. These are Restream’s own plan statements, accessed October 3, 2026, and terms can change. See Restream pricing.
Its YouTube integration page describes scheduling prerecorded video to YouTube, alongside live inputs and multistreaming features. That establishes a scheduled-video workflow; it does not establish that a playlist can run continuously and loop without interruption. If you want Restream to power a 24/7 news channel, ask the provider to confirm current continuous-playback behavior, session limits, and recovery handling before relying on it.

Alternatives, ranked for a recorded 24/7 YouTube channel
For this use case, prioritize cloud playout that explicitly supports continuous looping. The alternatives below do not all solve the same problem: some are described as continuous-playback services, while others are better understood as scheduled-event tools or production studios.
- StreamNeo — best fit to evaluate first for YouTube-only cloud looping. StreamNeo runs uploaded videos from the cloud, so a home computer does not need to stay on; any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps uses one flat price per slot, and the first day is free. It is a YouTube-only service. See StreamNeo and confirm that its current terms fit your channel’s playlist and storage needs.
- Upstream — cloud-slot option to investigate. Upstream’s own comparison describes flexible cloud stream slots for 24/7, scheduled prerecorded, live, backup, and multistream use. The page says its plan figures were last checked June 10, 2026, and it was updated September 21, 2026. Because this is a competing vendor’s comparison, verify features and limits directly with Upstream. Read the Upstream comparison.
- Gyre, LiveReacting, Castr, and OneStream Live — compare their current continuous-playback terms. A LiveReacting-authored comparison lists these among services with some 24/7 prerecorded capability, while describing restrictions. For example, it reports Castr looping on Premium and above, and a OneStream 24/7 add-on that is YouTube-only and limited to 30 days. The comparison says it was checked September 23, 2026; these are vendor-comparison claims, not independent tests. Confirm current limits and pricing with each provider. See the LiveReacting comparison.
- OBS Studio — DIY control if you can keep a machine running. OBS is described by the comparison sources as a free local option. It can be appropriate if you can maintain the computer, encoder, and network continuously; multistreaming may require third-party plugins. It is not a cloud substitute: a local outage or maintenance interruption can take the stream offline. See the Upstream comparison and LiveReacting comparison.
- StreamYard — consider it for a hosted show, not an assumed 24/7 loop. Upstream characterizes StreamYard as a browser studio suited to shows with guests rather than an always-on looping channel. If you are considering it, verify current stream-duration and plan limits for your intended workflow. Upstream’s comparison.
Choose by how your channel operates
| Channel requirement | Workflow to shortlist | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Recorded clips should loop continuously without a local computer running | A cloud playout service whose current plan explicitly supports continuous playback, such as StreamNeo or another verified cloud-slot provider | Looping behavior, slot and duration limits, storage, resolution, YouTube support, and recovery after a dropped stream |
| Occasional prerecorded broadcasts at scheduled times | Restream Upload & Stream or another event-scheduling workflow | Whether each broadcast is a separate event; do not assume continuous looping from scheduling support |
| Live presenters, guests, or browser-based production matter more than unattended playback | A browser studio such as StreamYard, after checking its current limits | Session duration and whether the plan actually supports the unattended operation you need |
| You want direct control and can operate your own equipment | OBS Studio on a dedicated, maintained computer | Power, network, encoder stability, restart and monitoring procedures, and any plugins needed for additional destinations |
Set up the channel without assuming a service handles everything
- Define the schedule. Decide whether you need a true repeating playlist, a sequence of scheduled broadcasts, or a live show interspersed with recorded segments. Get written confirmation from the provider for continuous looping and any session or playlist limits.
- Prepare the clips. Organize the recordings in the order viewers should see them. Check that each file plays correctly and that its audio and video are suitable for the channel. For a news operation, clear the rights to the footage and audio before uploading or broadcasting.
- Check YouTube’s current requirements. Use YouTube’s official live-stream setup help and encoder guidance for the current setup and technical instructions. Requirements can change, so consult those pages rather than relying on a third-party comparison for exact settings.
- Connect the destination carefully. Follow the selected provider’s current instructions to connect your YouTube channel or enter a stream key. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast.
- Test before leaving it unattended. Run a short private or otherwise appropriate test, check playback on YouTube, confirm the intended clips and audio appear, and verify how the provider behaves if the connection to YouTube is interrupted. Do not infer 24/7 reliability from a successful one-off event.
- Monitor the editorial operation. Have a person responsible for checking the live output and responding to clip corrections, rights issues, or a failed stream. Automation does not remove the need for editorial oversight.
Costs and verification before committing
Compare the cost for the actual operating pattern—not just a headline entry plan. A scheduled-event plan may not include continuous looping; a cloud service may bill by slot or duration; a local OBS setup may avoid a service fee but requires equipment, connectivity, power, and maintenance. The comparison pages cited above contain vendor-authored and time-sensitive claims, not independent pricing tests. Check each provider’s current plan page for destination count, video quality, storage, continuous-session limits, and cancellation terms.
