For a YouTube destination connected to Switchboard Live through its direct integration, edit the Stream Group’s shared Stream Details or customize the YouTube destination. If the YouTube stream is a scheduled event added to Switchboard as custom RTMP, change its title and description in YouTube Live Control Room instead: Switchboard says metadata changes do not push to custom RTMP destinations.
First identify how YouTube is connected
The right place to edit depends on the destination type. A directly integrated YouTube destination can use the Stream Group’s shared details or its own customized details. A scheduled YouTube event connected through custom RTMP must be edited in YouTube.
- Direct YouTube integration: Use the Stream Group editor for shared title and description, or customize the YouTube destination for separate wording.
- Scheduled event added as custom RTMP: Edit the event in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room. Switchboard says its titles and descriptions do not push to custom RTMP destinations, including scheduled YouTube events.

Change the shared title and description for a Stream Group
Use this route when the same title and description should apply to the eligible destinations in the group that have not been customized.

- Open the relevant Stream Group in Switchboard.
- Select the pencil or edit control in the group header.
- Edit the title and description under Stream Details.
- Select Save & Next.
The group’s main title appears in the Stream Group header. Destinations in that group use the group’s main metadata unless they have been customized. These steps follow Switchboard’s guide to adding a stream title and description.
Give the YouTube destination its own details
Customize YouTube when its title or description should differ from the Stream Group’s shared metadata.

- Open the Stream Group editor and select Customize beside the YouTube destination. Alternatively, select the blue information button beside that destination.
- If you opened the destination information route, choose Destination Settings.
- Edit the YouTube destination’s Stream Details.
- Select Save Changes.
Switchboard documents the Customize control for a destination in a specific group that is not an RTMP destination. If you do not see it, check whether the YouTube connection is custom RTMP; scheduled-event RTMP metadata follows the YouTube editing route below.
Edit a scheduled YouTube event connected as custom RTMP
Switchboard’s scheduled-event workflow has you create the event in YouTube Live Control Room and add it to Switchboard as a custom RTMP destination. Since Switchboard does not push its stream title and description to custom RTMP destinations, edit the event in YouTube itself.

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Open the scheduled live event.
- Select its Edit control and change the title or description in the event details.
- Save the changes in YouTube.
YouTube Help explains that live stream details can be edited from the stream settings page or while scheduling a stream: Manage live stream settings. Switchboard’s scheduled YouTube Event guide covers the custom RTMP setup and its metadata limitation.
Changing the title while the stream is live
Switchboard says YouTube supports title changes while live through its live-edit feature. This applies to destinations that support that feature; do not assume the same behavior for every destination or for custom RTMP. The documentation specifically lists X as not supporting live editing.

Title length and description limits
Switchboard lists YouTube’s stream title limit as 100 characters. The official sources cited here do not establish a YouTube description character limit, so this guide does not specify one. Keep the title within the documented limit and check YouTube’s own editor if it rejects a description.
