To loop Gurbani shabads on YouTube with OBS, prepare audio and visuals you have permission to use, add them to an OBS scene, enable repeat for the media source using the control in your installed OBS version, then connect OBS to YouTube Live with the server URL and stream key. Start the encoder and monitor the broadcast in YouTube Live Control Room. Before you begin
- OBS Studio: Install and open OBS on a computer that can remain powered on and connected to the internet throughout the broadcast.
- A prepared program: Gather the shabad audio recordings and choose a stable visual, such as a still image or a simple title card. Check that the audio is continuous and that the visual is suitable for the whole stream.
- Rights for the exact material: Confirm permission for each recording and performance, as well as any visual assets. A devotional subject does not by itself make a recording free to reuse.
- YouTube live access: If this is your first time enabling live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Set it up before the time you intend to broadcast. YouTube encoder setup guidance
Prepare the OBS scene and loop the shabads
- Open or create a scene. In OBS, use a scene dedicated to this stream so the program contains only the intended devotional audio and visual.
- Add the prepared media. Add the audio recording or prepared audio/video file as a source. If using separate audio and image sources, arrange the image as the visible background and check that the audio source is active.
- Enable repeat for the media source. Use the repeat or loop control available in your installed OBS build and verify its behavior in preview. The exact current control and label can vary; consult the OBS help portal or the controls in your installed version rather than relying on an unverified menu path. OBS Help
- Check playback and audio. Start source playback in the OBS preview. Confirm the image appears as intended, audio registers on the OBS mixer meters, and the transition from the end back to the beginning does not leave an unintended silent gap.
- Test the full program. Let the source play through a loop before going live. If there are multiple shabads, verify that they play in the intended sequence and that the repeat behavior restarts the playlist or media as you expect.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Create or select the stream in YouTube Studio. Open YouTube Studio and create a live stream or select the existing stream you plan to use. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the stream connection workflow: YouTube Live encoder setup.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. In the stream settings, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into OBS’s streaming connection settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen, share it, or include it in a recording.
- Start sending from OBS. Start the stream from OBS and return to YouTube Live Control Room. Wait for YouTube to receive the encoder feed, inspect the preview and stream health, then use the Live Control Room flow to go live.
- Monitor the broadcast. Keep an eye on OBS playback and YouTube’s stream health. A local OBS broadcast requires the computer, OBS, and internet connection to remain available; plan how you will notice a stopped source or a dropped connection and restart if needed.
Plan for a genuinely continuous broadcast
YouTube supports both scheduled and continuous 24/7 streams, but a continuous stream is not the same as an uninterrupted archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If a complete recording matters, arrange separate recordings or another archive workflow rather than relying on a single stream longer than 12 hours to be fully saved. - Keep the computer connected to reliable power and prevent sleep or automatic shutdown while OBS is broadcasting.
- Use a stable internet connection and keep OBS available for monitoring. A connection interruption or stopped encoder can interrupt the YouTube feed.
- Have a recovery plan: check OBS playback and the YouTube Live Control Room if the stream stops, then reconnect the encoder and resume the broadcast as appropriate.
- For a long-running service, consider whether someone can monitor it and whether a local computer is the operating arrangement you want to maintain.
Copyright and live-stream interruptions
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If its systems detect a match, YouTube may replace the picture, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. This can apply to Gurbani recordings even when the words are devotional: rights may exist in the sound recording and in the underlying composition or performance, and permissions for one do not automatically establish permission for the others.
If you have a license for material that is being detected, YouTube says to ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent an interruption when the channel has not been allowlisted. Check the rights holder’s requirements before broadcasting. YouTube live-stream copyright guidance

Troubleshooting
