You can run a podcast as a YouTube live stream from a Windows PC by sending either a live microphone feed or prerecorded episodes through streaming encoder software. For a near-continuous broadcast, plan monitored sessions and restarts: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, but that does not guarantee that one PC session will run indefinitely. If you mean a live host speaking, use a microphone source; if you mean a loop of recorded episodes, use a playback source. The steps below work regardless of whether your podcast is in Hindi or another language.
Choose what “continuous” means for your podcast
The setup depends on what viewers will hear. An encoder sends the audio and visual source you select; a YouTube playlist by itself is not established as an encoder input by YouTube’s cited setup guidance.
| Format | Audio source | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Live-hosted podcast | Microphone or headset connected to the PC and selected in the encoder | A host must be present to speak. Check the microphone level and audio routing before going live. |
| Recorded episode or episode loop | Playback from a local recording or playlist routed into the encoder | Confirm the encoder receives playback audio as well as the intended visual. A microphone is optional if nobody is speaking live. |
| Multiple scheduled broadcasts | The source configured for each encoder session | Schedule sessions and manage transitions and archives in YouTube Studio; do not assume a single session will run without interruption. |
Check YouTube eligibility before setting a start time
YouTube says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and meet its age requirement, currently 16 or older. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. Check access in YouTube Studio well before announcing the broadcast; YouTube’s requirements and enforcement can change. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility help.
Set up a Windows PC encoder stream
- Create the stream in Studio. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream. Use the Live Control Room to find the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes this workflow.
- Enter the destination in your encoder. Paste the stream URL into its server or destination field and the stream key into the corresponding key field. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not publish or share it.
- Select your source. For a live show, select the connected microphone or headset in the encoder. For recorded episodes, select the playback source or playlist you intend to send, and ensure its audio reaches the encoder. YouTube lists a microphone as typical equipment for a live-hosted stream, not a requirement for prerecorded playback.
- Choose compatible video and audio settings. Pick a resolution and frame rate your PC and connection can sustain. Apply YouTube’s current recommendation for the selected codec and resolution rather than copying a bitrate chosen for a different profile. Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval (do not exceed 4 seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. Its current encoder settings and bitrate table includes, for H.264, 5 Mbps at 1080p30 and 3 Mbps at 720p30. YouTube recommends RTMPS; supported video codecs listed in its guidance include H.264, H.265 and AV1, with up to 60 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee your specific PC can encode them reliably.
- Check your upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% spare upload bandwidth above the total stream bitrate. Account for other people and devices sharing the connection; test the intended feed under realistic network conditions. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Preview, verify, and go live. In the Live Control Room, wait for the incoming signal, preview it, and confirm that audio is audible and the picture is correct. Then start sending from the encoder and start the broadcast in Studio as required by the stream workflow. Monitor stream health and sound after launch; YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips cover checks during a broadcast.
Plan session length, archives, and oversight
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Treat that as an archive rule, not evidence that a longer stream is stable or that an unbroken 24/7 stream will be archived in full. If you need continuous availability, plan managed sessions and controlled restarts, check current Studio behavior, and arrange for someone to monitor the feed. A Windows PC encoder depends on the PC, encoder, power, and internet connection remaining available; the cited YouTube guidance does not promise indefinite operation from one local session.

Clear rights for every part of the broadcast
You need the necessary rights for each podcast recording, music bed, image, and other material in both the live feed and its archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can result in a placeholder, interruption, or termination; even if you have a licence, the rights-holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions, which require you to have the necessary rights for exploitation of live content on Google services.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- Studio will not let you go live: Verify the channel and check for restrictions in the past 90 days. If this is the first activation, allow up to 24 hours and confirm the Live Control Room shows access before your planned start.
- No incoming signal: Check that the encoder is using the stream URL and key for the correct Studio stream, then confirm it is sending. If needed, copy the current credentials from that stream’s Live Control Room and replace the encoder values.
- Video arrives but there is no sound: Verify the intended microphone or playback device is selected in the encoder and that its meter responds. For recorded episodes, check that playback audio—not just the video window—is routed to the encoder.
- Buffering or unstable stream health: Check that the total bitrate fits the available upload speed with YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Retest with other household or office network use in mind, and lower the encoder load or bitrate by choosing a suitable profile from YouTube’s table.
- Stream is interrupted over copyrighted material: Review the claimed segment and confirm you hold the relevant rights. If you are licensed, ask the rights-holder whether the channel must be allowlisted; a licence alone does not ensure Content ID will permit the live feed uninterrupted.
- Need an archive from a long broadcast: Keep the documented under-12-hour automatic archive threshold in mind. Plan separate sessions and verify the resulting archives in Studio rather than assuming a longer stream will be archived in full.
