Yes. One YouTube channel can run multiple course streams at once, subject to YouTube’s limits: no more than 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key, with both limits applying simultaneously. You can create a separate live event for each course and send each feed to its assigned event. A 24/7 broadcast also needs an archive plan: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so do not assume one uninterrupted day-long stream will produce a single complete replay.
How many simultaneous course streams can one channel run?
YouTube’s current guidance allows up to 10 active streams on a channel and up to three active streams per stream key. Both limits apply at the same time, so the effective capacity depends on the channel total and how the streams are assigned to keys. See YouTube’s live-streaming limits.
For example, two courses streaming concurrently fit within those stated caps. If you plan more feeds, count all active streams on the channel—not just the course streams—and check how many use each key. Creating another event does not remove either limit.
How to set up separate streams for different courses
- Enable live streaming. Confirm the channel is verified, has no recent live-stream restriction, and has live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours; see its live-streaming tips.
- Create a distinct live event for each course. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the course streams separately. Give each event a clear course name and record the stream URL and key intended for it. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers creating streams and connecting an encoder.
- Assign each feed to its event. In each encoder’s settings, enter the YouTube live server URL and the key for the corresponding event. Keep the course-to-event mapping documented so operators do not send one course to another course’s broadcast.
- Protect the stream keys. YouTube describes a stream key as the password and address for a stream. Treat it as a credential: do not post it in course materials or share it beyond people and systems that need to operate that feed.
- Check limits before starting. Count active feeds against the 10-per-channel and three-per-key caps, and account for any other live streams already running on the channel.
- Test each feed and monitor it. Confirm the correct course appears in the correct event, then monitor the broadcasts and have a response plan if an encoder or connection stops.
Plan for 24/7 playback and replays
Continuous operation and replay availability are separate concerns. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived in its encoder guidance, but that statement does not promise a single complete archive for an uninterrupted 24/7 stream. If students need to revisit lessons, plan how recordings will be made available independently—such as by dividing programming into shorter sessions where appropriate—and verify the resulting archive behavior for your workflow.

YouTube also states that a channel-wide limit applies to how many streams it can create in a 24-hour period, but its cited live-stream error guidance does not give a universal numeric allowance. If you create or restart many events in a day, leave room for that account-level limit rather than assuming it is unlimited.
Software encoder, hardware encoder, or cloud service?
YouTube documents both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders; its guidance does not identify one as universally better. Choose based on the production controls you need, who will operate and monitor the feeds, and whether you want a separate device dedicated to the job. A physical hardware encoder is optional, not a platform requirement.
