Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you want prerecorded podcast episodes to play on YouTube while your computer is off, choose a cloud playout service rather than another desktop encoder. StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud, supports uploads up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day. If you mean a live show with hosts and guests, use a browser studio or production encoder instead—those solve a different problem.
First decide what “always-on” means
An always-on channel can mean prerecorded episodes playing continuously, or people producing a live show around the clock. The distinction matters: a tool built for interviews and live scene changes is not necessarily able to rotate a library of recordings unattended.
- Prerecorded playout: A playlist or uploaded video runs on YouTube while nobody operates a computer. Look for scheduling, looping or playlist behavior, recovery after a dropped connection, and clear limits on run time and storage.
- Attended live production: Hosts, guests, graphics, scene switching, and live interaction are central. Choose a studio or encoder that supports the production workflow; plan who will monitor it and what happens if the computer or connection fails.
YouTube explains that “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” An encoder may be computer software or standalone hardware, but being able to encode a live input does not by itself mean a product can run prerecorded episodes as an unattended 24/7 playlist.
Alternatives for prerecorded 24/7 YouTube playout
For a podcast archive or continuous replay channel, start with services explicitly positioned for continuous prerecorded streaming. YouTube’s encoder directory describes Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded video and Upstream as a cloud studio for easy 24/7 streaming. Restream documents scheduling recorded streams while offline and combining videos into a playlist; its help center says, “You can even play a series of videos as a single stream with our Playlists feature.” Those descriptions establish relevant capabilities, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or a particular plan’s limits.

1. StreamNeo: cloud looping for uploaded videos
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud continues playback without leaving a computer or home connection running. It also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. StreamNeo is for YouTube and uploaded video playback, not camera-based live production.
Every slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists and 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. Uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers; every plan has the same product and only the billing length changes. A first day is free with no card, once per account.
Plans are offered for a day, a week, a month, six months, or a year, and can be canceled any time. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. Compare current options at StreamNeo or its pricing page.

2. Gyre and Upstream: verify current service terms
YouTube’s verified encoder directory lists Gyre and Upstream as cloud offerings for 24/7 streaming. That makes them relevant candidates for unattended prerecorded programming. Before choosing either, confirm directly with the provider how playlists loop, whether episodes can be rotated or scheduled, stream-duration and storage limits, reconnect behavior, archive settings, plan availability, and price. Directory inclusion indicates YouTube compatibility; YouTube says these products are not made by YouTube and does not guarantee uptime or endorse them.
3. Restream: scheduled recordings and playlists
Restream documents prerecorded streams that can be scheduled while the operator is offline, as well as playlists that join multiple videos into a longer broadcast. This can fit a podcast channel that needs scheduled episodes or a prepared sequence. Check that the specific plan and workflow support the intended duration and repetition: a playlist feature alone does not establish indefinite looping, automatic episode rotation, or a recovery commitment.

Alternatives for an attended live podcast
Browser studios: StreamYard or Restream Studio
A browser studio is a natural fit when guests join remotely and the producer needs branded layouts, graphics, clips, presentations, and scene changes. StreamYard’s guidance focuses on browser-based shows and guest onboarding; Restream Studio also runs in a browser and documents guests, graphics, video clips, and presentations. These are live-show workflows. Do not assume their studio features provide unattended, continuous prerecorded playout.
Desktop encoders: OBS, vMix, Wirecast, Streamlabs, and Ecamm
Desktop encoders make sense when you want local control over scenes, sources, audio, and production. Restream’s encoder guide lists OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and Ecamm among external encoders; YouTube’s directory lists Wirecast among verified software encoders. Its inclusion is a compatibility signal, not a promise of uptime. Restream describes OBS as free and open-source, Ecamm as Mac-specific, and vMix as a professional production tool. Verify current operating-system support and the features you need with each vendor.
Ecamm is a Mac broadcasting app with direct YouTube Live support. Its help center says it integrates with YouTube Live and other destinations; the cited documentation establishes a hands-on broadcasting workflow, not a managed cloud service for keeping a prerecorded channel live while your Mac is off. If you already produce on a Mac, it may suit an attended show. If you choose any local encoder for continuous operation, the computer, power, network, and restart/recovery arrangements remain part of the system.

Dedicated hardware: AJA HELO Plus
YouTube’s directory lists the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone hardware encoder. Its description says optional PlayToStream can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. That is useful for a fixed appliance setup, but the description does not establish indefinite playlist looping or continuous rotation through a podcast library. Confirm those exact behaviors before relying on it for 24/7 playout.
Compare the options against your actual workflow
| Option | Best fit | Where it runs | Prerecorded playlists | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Unattended YouTube playback of uploaded videos | Cloud | 24/7 looping and playlists are included | Storage use, stream key setup, and whether your recording fits the slot’s pooled storage |
| Gyre or Upstream | Unattended 24/7 cloud streaming | Cloud | Directory descriptions establish 24/7 prerecorded or easy 24/7 streaming; exact loop and rotation behavior not stated | Run time, playlists, scheduling, recovery, archives, availability, and plan limits |
| Restream prerecorded streams | Scheduled recorded streams and multi-video playlists | Service workflow; confirm exact configuration | Playlists documented | Indefinite looping, episode rotation, duration limits, reconnects, and plan terms |
| StreamYard or Restream Studio | Attended guest shows and live production | Browser | Unattended 24/7 playout not established by the cited live-studio features | Guest workflow, scenes, destinations, and whether a producer must remain active |
| Desktop encoder such as OBS, vMix, Wirecast, Streamlabs, or Ecamm | Local production control | Computer; Ecamm is Mac-specific | Depends on application and setup; continuous playlist behavior not established uniformly | Operating system, local recording, destination count, restart strategy, and computer/network dependence |
| AJA HELO Plus | Dedicated hardware encoding | Standalone appliance | Optional PlayToStream schedules prerecorded media; continuous looping and library rotation not established | Whether its scheduling meets your full 24/7 playlist requirement |
For any option, distinguish a feature description from a service-level promise. YouTube’s verified directory is useful for checking encoder compatibility, but YouTube notes that listed products are made by third parties. The sources cited here do not establish a consistent current price table or uptime guarantee across providers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to choose and prepare a dependable stream
- Write down the operating model. Decide whether episodes are prerecorded and unattended, or whether people will be live on camera. List whether you need guests, branded scenes, episode scheduling, continuous looping, local recordings, and one or multiple destinations.
- Choose cloud, local computer, or appliance. Cloud playout avoids keeping a home computer online. A desktop encoder gives hands-on production control but relies on local power, hardware, network, and recovery planning. A hardware encoder avoids using a general-purpose computer, but confirm it supports your precise playlist behavior.
- Check YouTube channel readiness and stream-key handling. In YouTube Studio, open the live control room, select or create a stream, and use the stream key associated with that setup in the encoder or service. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, and reset it if exposed. Labels and setup requirements can vary with YouTube Studio’s current interface and channel status.
- Test the entire run before announcing a 24/7 schedule. Confirm the video and audio, playlist order, restart or reconnect behavior, stream visibility, and how the next episode begins. Watch a test from another device and check the YouTube live control room rather than assuming that an encoder’s “live” status means viewers can see the intended output.
- Plan rights and channel policy compliance. Use recordings, music, artwork, and guest material you have permission to stream. A live format does not remove copyright obligations. Check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules, and make sure a continuous replay channel adds meaningful value rather than relying on repetitive or reused material alone. Do not promise monetization based solely on being live for long periods.
- Calculate total operating cost. Compare the service plan with any always-on computer or appliance, electricity, internet capacity, backup connectivity, storage, and the time needed to monitor and recover a local setup. A nominally free encoder still has hardware and operational costs when it must run continuously.
Common problems and practical fixes
- The stream stops when the laptop sleeps or shuts down: A local encoder depends on the computer remaining powered and awake. Change power settings and arrange restart monitoring, or move prerecorded playout to a cloud service.
- The encoder shows live but YouTube does not: Check that the correct stream key and destination are selected, the stream is started in the live control room, and the channel is eligible to stream. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder.
- A playlist ends instead of repeating: Verify that looping is explicitly supported and enabled for the service and plan you use. A playlist that creates a longer broadcast is not necessarily an endless loop.
- A dropped connection leaves a dead broadcast: Check the service’s reconnect policy and test it before relying on it. For a local setup, plan how the encoder and computer restart; for a cloud service, confirm its recovery behavior and how YouTube’s stream is resumed.
- Episodes are interrupted or unavailable: Check file compatibility, upload completion, playlist order, storage limits, and rights restrictions. Review YouTube’s live control room for warnings and verify the source file plays correctly outside the streaming workflow.
- Playback looks or sounds wrong: Inspect the original recording and the encoder’s selected input or uploaded file. For local production, check scene sources, audio routing, and output settings; for uploaded-video playout, replace or correct the source file and retest the playlist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can OBS itself keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running after I turn off my computer?
No. A desktop encoder running on that computer stops when the computer or encoder stops; unattended playback needs a cloud service or suitable standalone setup.
Does YouTube’s verified encoder directory mean a product is endorsed by YouTube?
No. YouTube says the listed encoder products are made by third parties; directory inclusion indicates compatibility, not endorsement or an uptime guarantee.
