Somebody Knows Something is an ABC/Freeform true-crime docuseries hosted by Kara Robinson Chamberlain. Its first season revisits eight unsolved disappearances and murders, using interviews and appeals for tips to bring attention back to cases whose families are still seeking answers. It is distinct from an Elgin Police Department podcast with the same title.
What is Somebody Knows Something about?
Freeform describes the series as Chamberlain investigating unsolved cases. ABC News characterizes her as a former law-enforcement officer and survivor of violent crime, and says she works with families, law enforcement and the true-crime online community. Those are the networks’ descriptions of the host and the program’s approach.
The series’ stated idea is that someone may have information that could help move an investigation forward. ABC News says each episode ends with an appeal to viewers for information. That appeal is not proof of any theory presented in an episode, and public attention alone does not establish what happened in a case.
ABC News reported that more than 600,000 people go missing in the United States every year. The article, published August 3, 2026, does not identify the original publisher, methodology or data year behind that figure, so it is best understood as a number attributed to ABC News rather than an independently verified statistic.

| Episode | Case | Network description |
|---|---|---|
| “The Baby in the Yellow Blanket” | Sabrina Aisenberg (1997) | ABC says the five-month-old disappeared from her crib near Tampa, Florida. The network says the investigation focused on her parents; possibilities raised in the episode description should be treated as questions, not findings. |
| “Lost in the Night” | Lashaya Stine (2016) | ABC says the Colorado teenager disappeared at night. Police initially deemed her a runaway, while evidence pointed to foul play. The network raises questions about trafficking, an ex-boyfriend and unidentified people, but those are not established conclusions. |
| “Disappeared in the Desert” | Steven Koecher (2009) | ABC says the 30-year-old’s car was found abandoned in a Nevada cul-de-sac, far from his Utah home. |
| “Lost at Sea” | Kevin McGrath (2023) | ABC identifies McGrath as a 26-year-old Army veteran who vanished from a Carnival cruise. The network reports that a 3,300-mile Coast Guard search found no trace of him. |
| “Garage Sale Murder” | Liz Barraza (2019) | ABC says the Texas woman was shot while setting up a garage sale outside her home, and that a disguised figure appeared on a doorbell camera. |
| “Lost at the Science Fair” | Kyron Horman (2010) | Freeform describes the case as the disappearance of a second grader from a Portland school. ABC says investigators initially focused on his stepmother after hearing unproven rumors. She denied involvement and was never charged. |
| “Vanished on Loop Road” | Amy Wroe Bechtel (1997) | ABC describes the accomplished distance runner as disappearing while jogging in Wyoming’s mountains. |
| “Secrets in the Swamp” | Brandy Hall (2006) | ABC says the firefighter disappeared after leaving a Florida fire station and that her truck was later found submerged with blood inside. The network account does not establish what happened to her. |
Is this the same as the Elgin Police Department podcast?
No. The shared title refers to two different productions. The television series is an ABC/Freeform docuseries hosted by Kara Robinson Chamberlain and covers cases from multiple locations. Apple’s listing identifies the other Somebody Knows Something as a podcast created by the Elgin Police Department, hosted by department detectives and focused on cold cases in the Elgin area. Its contact information applies to that department’s cases, not to the television series.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to treat the series’ appeals and case descriptions
As with any true-crime program, distinguish a network summary, a question posed by an episode and an established finding. In particular, ABC’s account describes some investigative questions and unproven rumors; those should not be repeated as fact or taken as evidence of anyone’s guilt. Anyone with potentially relevant information should contact the agency investigating that specific case, using contact details verified directly with that agency.
