These are planning targets, not guarantees: measure sustained upload at the streaming location and during the hours you intend to broadcast. For a 24/7 channel, also plan around YouTube’s warning that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as archives.
Recommended YouTube Live bitrate by resolution, frame rate and codec
YouTube’s official encoder table gives different bitrate recommendations for each codec, resolution and frame rate. The figures below are YouTube recommendations for live ingestion, not a guarantee of image quality for every game or a measurement of Indian broadband performance. The YouTube Help page does not show a publication year.

If your encoder supports AV1 or H.265/HEVC reliably, YouTube’s listed target is lower than its H.264 recommendation at the same resolution and frame rate. Confirm codec support in your encoder and test a representative gameplay scene—fast movement may reveal problems that a static menu does not.
How much upload capacity to allow on Indian broadband
The relevant figure is sustained upload capacity where the streaming computer or service connects, not the broadband plan’s advertised download speed or a brief speed-test peak. YouTube notes that inbound/download speed is often higher than outbound/upload speed, shared network use can reduce bandwidth available to a stream, and connectivity disruptions can interrupt it. Its guidance recommends leaving 20% room and testing under realistic conditions.

- For a 17 Mbps video target, adding 20% gives a planning allowance of 20.4 Mbps: 17 Ă— 1.2.
Those calculations apply YouTube’s headroom guidance as an allowance above the target; they are not guaranteed minimum connection speeds. Real overhead, bitrate behavior and other network activity vary. If people or devices share the connection, test with their normal usage underway and allow for the extra load.
No specific ISP, plan, city, connection type or sustained upload measurement is established here, so there is no reliable blanket answer for whether an Indian broadband connection can hold 1080p60. Test from the actual streaming location at the intended broadcast hours, then monitor YouTube Live stream health. If the connection is unstable, reduce bitrate by choosing a lower resolution or frame rate that matches YouTube’s table rather than assuming the advertised plan speed will suffice. YouTube’s guidance recommends Ethernet for streaming from a computer; a wired connection can avoid some local wireless variability, but it cannot increase the ISP plan’s upload capacity.

Encoder settings that matter
For YouTube Live, the recommended protocol is RTMP/RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension of RTMP. Supported video codecs listed by YouTube are H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1. Set bitrate encoding to CBR, use a 2-second keyframe interval, and do not exceed 4 seconds. For stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3 at 128 Kbps.

Use the bitrate corresponding to the codec, resolution and frame rate you actually send to YouTube. Test with active gameplay, not only a static image, and check both the Live Control Room preview and stream health. These are ingestion settings: they do not establish that your local connection can sustain them continuously.
24/7 streaming and the YouTube replay archive
A continuous live broadcast and a complete replay archive are separate goals. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” For an archive that matters, end and restart sessions before they reach 12 hours, and keep a local recording as a backup. The recording gives you a separate copy if connectivity or processing causes a problem.

The cited guidance does not specify whether ending and immediately restarting a session preserves uninterrupted playback for viewers, or how every channel configuration handles a handoff. - Choose a target. Select a resolution and frame rate from YouTube’s table, then use its recommended bitrate for the codec your encoder supports. For example, 1080p60 is 12 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 17 Mbps for H.264.
- Measure sustained upload. Test at the streaming location and broadcast hours, with normal household or workplace network use. Plan around YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance; do not use download speed as a substitute for upload measurement.
- Prefer Ethernet where practical. YouTube recommends a wired connection for computer streaming. It does not compensate for insufficient ISP upload.
- Set the encoder. Use RTMPS where available, a supported video codec, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval (no more than 4 seconds), and stereo AAC or MP3 audio at 128 Kbps.
- Run a representative test. Include fast gameplay movement and audio. Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health, and confirm the local recording is being written correctly.
- Protect the archive. If you need a YouTube replay, schedule sessions to end before 12 hours and verify the local recording as a backup.
