If an Indian music playlist in OBS stops, repeats, or starts over instead of moving to the next track, check the VLC Video Source’s playlist and loop settings first. If the problem appears after switching scenes, inspect how OBS handles sources when they become invisible. These are general OBS behaviors; there is no India-specific playlist setting.
First identify the symptom
- The playlist stops after its final item: check Loop Playlist.
- Tracks play in the same order: check Shuffle Playlist.
- Playback starts over after a scene change: check the source’s visibility behavior.
- One or more items never play: inspect the playlist entries and test the affected files individually.
Change one relevant control at a time, then test again. That makes it easier to tell which setting affects the symptom.
Set up the correct OBS source
Use VLC Video Source for a playlist
OBS’s VLC Video Source supports a playlist. The built-in Media Source is intended for an individual media file, not a multi-item playlist. VLC must be installed for the VLC Video Source to appear in OBS.
Match VLC’s architecture to OBS
If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC. The OBS Project’s official knowledge base states: “If you are using 64-bit OBS, you must install 64-bit VLC.” This is a dependency requirement; it does not, by itself, establish the cause of a particular playlist problem. Read OBS’s Media Sources documentation.

Verify every playlist item
Open the VLC Video Source’s properties and confirm that the expected files or media entries are listed. If an entry is missing or fails on its own, test it in VLC and correct its playlist path before troubleshooting playback order. The available OBS documentation does not identify broken paths or unsupported files as a universal cause of playlists failing to advance.
Check looping and shuffle independently

In the VLC Video Source properties, enable Loop Playlist if playback should return to the beginning after the final item. OBS documents this option as on by default; it controls what happens when the source runs out of items.

Playlist plays in listed order
Enable Shuffle Playlist if you want the files’ order randomized. OBS documents shuffle as off by default. Shuffle changes order; it does not control whether playback restarts after the last item. Test it separately from looping.

- Stop when not visible, restart when visible: this is the default. If changing scenes hides the VLC source, returning to it can restart playback rather than continue from the point you expected.
- Pause when not visible, resume when visible: playback pauses while the source is hidden, then resumes when it becomes visible.
- Always play even when not visible: playback continues through scene changes.
Choose the behavior that matches your stream, then switch away and back once to observe whether the playlist continues, pauses, or restarts. This can distinguish a visibility-related restart from a playlist that has reached its end.
Investigate shuffle restarting when a scene returns
Some users have reported that a shuffled VLC Video Source can revisit the current song when its scene is reloaded. An OBS issue filed on 2024-11-11 describes this with OBS 30.2.0 on Windows 10. An older issue, filed on 2020-10-11, reports a similar symptom with OBS 26.0.2 on Windows 10 Pro 1909 and is marked closed, but its page does not state how it was resolved. These are reports tied to particular versions and circumstances, not proof of a universal defect in current OBS releases.

A 2020-11-23 OBS forum reply suggests using the Directory Watch Media plugin as a filter on the VLC Video Source, then assigning its Refresh action to a hotkey. The reply says Refresh re-saves the source properties and reshuffles when Shuffle is enabled. This is community advice, not an official fix guarantee. Check that the plugin build supports your installed OBS version and operating system before trying it.

The VLC Video Source includes a Network caching control, documented with a default of 400 ms. The documentation does not say changing it fixes advancement for local playlist files. Consider it only if your playlist uses network media or playback shows buffering; there is no established alternative value to recommend as a general fix.
