Yes. A church can add a recorded sermon to an OBS Media Source, enable Loop, and send the scene to YouTube Live using OBS as an encoder. The channel must be eligible to livestream, and the church must have the rights to every element in the broadcast—including music and third-party clips. YouTube’s general rules do not provide a church-specific exemption or guarantee that a particular loop will remain live or qualify for monetization.
How to loop one sermon in OBS
- Check channel access. In YouTube Studio, confirm that the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube supports streaming through an encoder, but the channel must meet its eligibility requirements. See YouTube’s encoder livestreaming guidance.
- Add the recording to a scene. In OBS, open or create the scene for the broadcast. In the Sources dock, add a Media Source and select the local sermon file.
- Enable the repeat setting. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. OBS defines this as replaying the file when playback completes; its documented default is off. Do not confuse it with Restart playback when source becomes active, which restarts the file when the source is visible in the current scene but does not make it repeat. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Preview audio and video. Confirm that the recording plays as expected in the OBS preview and that the audio is audible and at an appropriate level. OBS documents video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, and audio formats including MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV.
- Connect OBS to YouTube Live. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select an encoder stream and enter its stream URL and key in OBS. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Check YouTube’s incoming preview before starting the broadcast. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and its recommended encoder settings.
Once the broadcast is running, OBS repeats the file at the source level. The stream still depends on the computer, OBS, and internet connection staying available.
Playing several sermons instead of one file
For a sequence of recordings, use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding each recording as a separate Media Source. Add the playlist to that source and enable Loop Playlist to repeat the sequence. VLC must be installed for this source type to appear in OBS. OBS describes the source and its playlist controls in its Media Sources guide.
Check rights and YouTube rules before broadcasting
Clear every element in the recording
The church is responsible for having the necessary rights for live content, including music, photographs, video clips, and other third-party material. A church-owned sermon recording does not automatically clear worship music or inserted footage included in it. YouTube’s livestream terms require live content to comply with the Community Guidelines and applicable rules; they do not grant a church blanket permission to rebroadcast copyrighted material.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Understand live copyright matching
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches. A match can replace the feed with a placeholder, prompt a warning, or interrupt or terminate the stream if the matched material remains. Even if the church has a license, the rights owner may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID to avoid an interruption. Review YouTube’s guidance on live-stream copyright issues and confirm the process with the rights owner where relevant.
Do not confuse permission with monetization
Permission to stream and eligibility to earn money are separate questions. YouTube’s monetization rules apply to live streams, and its reused-content review is conducted at channel level. Owning a recording or having permission to rebroadcast it does not, by itself, establish that the channel or stream qualifies for monetization. See YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

What changes when the loop runs for many hours
A repeating OBS source does not guarantee that YouTube will archive the broadcast or keep DVR available for its entire duration. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR functionality may also be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours. If an archive matters, keep a local recording as a backup. Check YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance before choosing a long broadcast schedule.
Common problems and what to check
- The sermon plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and check Loop. Restart playback when source becomes active is not a substitute.
- The VLC playlist source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen OBS and check the Sources options again.
- YouTube does not accept the encoder stream: Confirm channel verification and live-stream eligibility, then check that OBS is using the selected stream’s current URL and key. Do not share the key publicly.
- The stream is interrupted after music or a clip plays: Review the recording for third-party matches, confirm that the church has the necessary rights, and ask the rights owner whether Content ID allowlisting is required.
- The broadcast has no dependable archive or DVR: Check its total duration against YouTube’s 12-hour guidance and make a local recording if retaining the full program is important.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is to keep a prerecorded church program live on YouTube without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. It keeps the stream running from the cloud, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and sends the upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. The first day is free with no card required. The Monthly plan is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos to YouTube; it is not a camera-based live broadcast. You remain responsible for rights and YouTube policy compliance. Start the free first day.
