Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →You can stream a recorded lecture with a still image in OBS by placing both sources in one scene, enabling looping on the lecture, then sending OBS to YouTube Live with the stream URL and key. Keep the OBS computer, power and internet connection running, and monitor the broadcast: “24/7” is the intended schedule, not a guarantee that one stream will remain online or produce a complete archive.
Build the OBS scene
Add the lecture and static image
-
In OBS, create a scene for the lecture stream.
-
Add the recorded lecture as a Media Source, then add the still image as an Image source. Arrange the sources in the list and fit them to the canvas so the image appears where intended. OBS Media Source supports common video and audio formats. The source order determines which visual elements cover others.
-
In the Media Source properties, enable Loop. It is off by default; with it enabled, the lecture restarts when playback reaches the end.
Decide whether the still should be a full-screen background or a smaller visual alongside the lecture. Arrange and size the sources accordingly, then preview the scene before going live. Check that the image remains visible throughout playback and that the end-to-start transition does not create an unwanted gap or flash.

Use a playlist for multiple lectures
For several recordings, OBS offers a VLC Video source that can play a playlist. VLC must be installed; if you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties if the sequence should repeat. Preview the transitions between files and verify the still image is layered as intended. OBS documents these looping controls, but not a dedicated 24/7 scheduling system.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
-
Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or select the stream you want to use.
-
In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions require both. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
-
Start the OBS stream and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before considering the broadcast ready for viewers.

First-time YouTube live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions during the preceding 90 days. Check the current eligibility and encoder instructions in YouTube’s encoder setup guide before scheduling a launch.
Set output and test before launch
Choose output settings that match the lecture and your upload connection; higher bitrate is not automatically better if the connection cannot sustain it. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube lists 14 Mbps as its recommended bitrate and 5 Mbps as the minimum. These are YouTube’s figures for that codec, resolution and frame rate, not universal settings for every OBS stream. See YouTube’s encoder settings.
Run a test stream before the public broadcast. Confirm that the lecture audio is audible, the image is composed correctly, looping works, and YouTube receives a healthy signal. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring rather than assuming the selected settings will work on a particular connection.
Keep watch on stream health
While streaming, monitor both OBS and YouTube’s Live Control Room. OBS’s dropped-frame indicator can help diagnose connection trouble: rising dropped frames may mean the connection to YouTube is unstable or cannot keep up with the selected bitrate. Reduce bitrate if the upload connection cannot sustain it, then test again. Review OBS’s dropped-frame guidance and YouTube’s stream-health messages rather than treating a running OBS preview as proof that viewers receive a stable stream.

A computer-based broadcast depends on the computer, power and network continuing to work. The cited platform guidance recommends testing and monitoring; it does not establish a 24/7 uptime guarantee or prescribe a redundant power or network design.
Plan the replay and rights before going live
A 24-hour stream is not a dependable full-length archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not rely on one 24-hour broadcast to create a complete replay of the entire lecture rotation: the cited guidance does not establish a full-archive guarantee for a stream longer than 12 hours. If a complete video-on-demand copy matters, plan shorter sessions and check YouTube’s current archiving behavior before setting the schedule. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Clear every element in the recording
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; unresolved material can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. If you have licensed third-party material, YouTube says to ask the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent an interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Claims can also appear on an archived stream after it ends. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
Check rights for the lecture recording and for included slides, music, clips and background assets. Educational subject matter by itself does not establish platform clearance or prevent automated matching.

Troubleshoot common problems
-
The lecture stops at the end. Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop. For a multi-file VLC Video source, check Loop Playlist.
-
The static image is hidden or appears in the wrong place. Check the scene’s source order and transform/size of the image and video in the OBS preview. Reposition or resize sources so their layers match the intended composition.
-
OBS shows dropped frames. Check the connection to YouTube and whether the upload connection can sustain the configured bitrate. Lower the bitrate if needed, then test the stream again.
-
YouTube does not receive the stream. Confirm that OBS is using the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, and review the Live Control Room’s stream-health status. Keep the key private.

-
Live streaming is not available yet. Verify the channel’s eligibility and allow for first-time enablement, which YouTube says can take up to 24 hours.
-
The stream is interrupted after a copyright match. Identify the matched material and resolve the rights issue. If it is licensed, ask the rights holder about adding the channel to the Content ID allowlist; possession of a license does not itself ensure uninterrupted streaming.
