You can use OBS to send a turntable’s audio and a visual scene to YouTube, or loop permission-cleared local files, but OBS looping does not guarantee a stream will stay live around the clock. Before setting anything up, confirm you have the rights to broadcast every recording and visual: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt or terminate a stream.
Before you set up a vinyl jazz radio stream
Confirm your channel can livestream
YouTube’s current eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check channel access before building your OBS scene. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Clear the music and visuals for broadcast
Owning a vinyl record does not by itself establish permission to broadcast its recording worldwide. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the live picture with a placeholder and warn you; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube says a licensed channel may still be interrupted unless the rights holder adds it to the Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.
YouTube’s livestream terms require the creator to have the rights needed for worldwide use of live content, including applicable music rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Obtain permission that expressly covers the intended live broadcast, territories and any archive, and confirm allowlisting with the relevant rights holder. Requirements depend on the recordings, compositions, territories and license terms; this is platform guidance, not legal advice.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Apply the same rights review to album art, photos, looped visuals or other video. A camera view of your turntable avoids using artwork as the visual, but it does not clear the music rights.
Choose live vinyl or a looped playlist
| Approach | What OBS receives | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Live turntable | Audio captured from your turntable, paired with a camera view or permitted static visual | Suitable audio capture hardware, the correct signal path and a plan for interruptions to the record, equipment or stream |
| Local playlist | Recorded audio or video files played from the computer | Permission for every recording and visual, plus a playback source configured to loop |
Choose live vinyl if the point is to hear a turntable playing now. Choose a local playlist if you want a prebuilt sequence that can repeat. Either way, rights clearance and stream monitoring remain your responsibility.

How to set up the stream in OBS
- Create a YouTube encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream for encoder software. Copy the stream key and keep it private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Select the encoder workflow that uses OBS. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend RTMPS.
- Build an OBS scene. Add a camera source if you want viewers to see the turntable, or add a static image you have permission to use. Check that the picture is framed and visible in the OBS preview. The visual does not replace the need to clear music rights.
- Connect and select the audio source. Connect the turntable to suitable capture hardware. Depending on the turntable output and capture input, a phono preamp may be necessary; check both devices’ connections rather than assuming one wiring path works for all equipment. In OBS, open Settings → Audio and select the relevant device if the default is wrong. Play a record and confirm the Audio Mixer meters respond. YouTube’s streaming tips discuss audio equipment and capture considerations.
- For recorded files, configure looping. Add a Media Source and enable looping for a single local file. For a set of files, use the VLC Video source with a playlist and loop-playlist enabled; VLC must be installed. These playback options are for local media, not a requirement for a live turntable capture. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Set up the encoder and stream key. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key if it is not already connected through the available account workflow. Use OBS’s Auto-Configuration Wizard if you want help choosing initial output settings. YouTube’s tips give 128 Kbps as an audio baseline for stereo RTMP/RTMPS; treat it as a starting point, not a universal optimum for every record, preamp or connection. Review the YouTube encoder recommendations for current guidance.
- Test privately before going public. Start the encoder and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. Listen for clean, correctly routed audio; check that the image is present; and inspect stream health before making the broadcast public. Run the test for a few minutes and correct problems before the intended start.
- Monitor the live stream. Keep an eye on YouTube’s stream health and confirm audio and video continue as expected. A 24/7 stream depends on power, the computer, network, OBS, the audio source and your ability to detect and recover from interruptions. OBS can loop media, but neither looping nor the setup steps guarantee uninterrupted uptime.
Common problems and fixes
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| You cannot start a YouTube live stream | The channel does not meet live-stream eligibility or has a restriction | Verify the channel and check for live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days using YouTube’s eligibility guidance. |
| YouTube receives video but no sound | OBS is listening to the wrong device, or the audio path is incomplete | Check Settings → Audio, confirm the correct capture device is selected, and look for meter activity in the Audio Mixer while the record plays. Check whether your turntable and capture input require a phono preamp. |
| The audio clips, distorts or is too quiet | The signal level or capture path may be unsuitable | Check the connections and audio levels at the capture device and in OBS. Test with the actual source before broadcasting; the appropriate settings depend on your equipment. |
| A local file stops instead of repeating | Looping is not enabled for the source, or the playlist source is not configured to loop | For one file, check the Media Source’s loop setting. For multiple files, check the VLC Video playlist and loop-playlist setting, and confirm VLC is installed. |
| The live broadcast is interrupted after a copyright match | YouTube detected third-party content; a license alone may not prevent live interruption | Stop using material unless you have the required rights, and ask the relevant rights holder to allowlist your channel. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance. |
| The stream goes offline unexpectedly | A power, computer, network, OBS or source interruption may have stopped encoding | Check the OBS status, YouTube stream health, network and source. Arrange a way to notice the interruption and restart or otherwise recover; OBS looping does not itself restart a failed live stream. |
What happens to the archived stream
If YouTube archives a live stream, Content ID claims on that archive are made after the stream finishes. That later claim process is separate from live scanning, which can interrupt a broadcast while it is in progress. See YouTube’s Content ID guidance.
