A YouTube copyright strike and a live-stream restriction run on different clocks. If you complete Copyright School and have fewer than three active copyright strikes, YouTube says the strike expires 90 days after it was applied. A live stream removed for copyright can bring a separate seven-day live-stream restriction—or 14 days if the channel gets another copyright strike. Expiration does not restore the removed video, and YouTube does not say whether an existing always-on broadcast will restart automatically.
What happens when a YouTube copyright strike expires?
YouTube says a copyright strike expires 90 days after it was applied if you complete Copyright School and have fewer than three active copyright strikes. Without completing Copyright School, the strike remains active. Check the strike notice and your account status in YouTube Studio for the details and available resolution options. How is the live-stream restriction different from the strike?
If YouTube removes an active live stream for copyright, it says live-stream access is restricted for seven days. If the channel gets another copyright strike, the live-stream restriction lasts 14 days. Those periods are separate from the 90-day strike-expiry rule: a shorter streaming restriction ending does not itself mean the strike has expired. YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes

Will an always-on stream come back by itself?
YouTube’s public guidance does not specify whether an existing encoder or cloud broadcast resumes automatically after a live-stream restriction ends, whether it must reconnect, or whether you must start a new broadcast. Do not assume the stream is back just because the restriction period has passed. Check YouTube Studio for your channel’s current status and the stream’s status, then confirm whether the broadcast is live before relying on it.

Does the removed stream return after 90 days?
No. YouTube says the video is not reinstated when the strike expires. Strike expiration is not restoration of the removed stream or its archive. YouTube Help: About copyright removal requests
Is a Content ID claim the same as a copyright strike?
No. YouTube says Content ID claims typically do not result in copyright strikes. A live stream can also be interrupted during scanning for third-party content; an interruption by itself does not establish that the channel received a strike. Check the notice and Studio account status rather than treating every claim or interruption as a strike. YouTube Help: Understand copyright strikes YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams

What can you do about the strike?
The appropriate route depends on whether you accept the removal or believe it was mistaken. These options are not interchangeable, and a counter notification is a legal process, not a routine appeal.
- Complete Copyright School and wait: If you meet YouTube’s conditions, the strike can expire after 90 days. The removed video still will not be reinstated.
- Ask for a retraction: Contact the person who submitted the removal request and ask them to retract it.
- Submit a counter notification: YouTube describes this as an option when you believe the removal was mistaken or the use qualifies for a copyright exception. Consider getting legal advice if you are unsure; no general article can determine whether a particular use qualifies.

What if you have permission to use the material?
Permission does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. YouTube says a rights owner can add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that, a live stream may be interrupted even if you have a license or have limited the stream to territories where you hold the required rights. Ask the rights owner about allowlisting and keep your permission records. YouTube Help: Copyright issues with live streams
