Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To keep an OBS playlist live on YouTube over Airtel broadband, set OBS to a bitrate your connection can sustain continuously—not simply one that looks small beside your plan’s advertised download speed. Measure upload capacity, leave headroom, use YouTube’s recommended encoder settings, test the actual playlist, and watch OBS and YouTube stream-health indicators. Airtel’s listed speeds are maximums, not guarantees of stable upload to YouTube.
1. Choose a stream quality your upload can sustain
Start with the resolution and frame rate the channel needs. YouTube’s live guidance gives these H.264 recommended video bitrates. They are encoder recommendations, not evidence that a particular Airtel connection can maintain them.
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
| 360p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
For a simple OBS setup, use a YouTube-supported video codec and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. It supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Use the live encoder guidance for a livestream; YouTube’s separate upload-encoding advice is for prerecorded video files. Treat the recommended bitrate as a target only if your measured outbound connection can carry the stream with margin. Lower the output resolution, frame rate, or bitrate if the connection cannot reliably sustain it.

2. Check upload speed and leave headroom
- Run an upload-speed test from the streaming computer or its network. If possible, test when household or office use is typical, not only when the connection is quiet.
- Compare stable upload capacity—not download speed—with your total stream bitrate, including audio. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the total bitrate.
- Account for other people and devices uploading on the same connection. Shared use can reduce the capacity available to OBS.
- If upload speed fluctuates, choose a lower setting that still leaves practical margin during the weaker periods.
For example, a 6 Mbps video bitrate plus audio requires more than 6 Mbps of stable outbound capacity; running OBS at the connection’s observed limit leaves no room for variation. This is arithmetic guidance, not a measurement of Airtel broadband.
3. Test the playlist in OBS before going live
- Create or schedule a private or unlisted YouTube test stream and connect OBS using the stream key for that broadcast.
- Run the actual playlist scene, including its ordinary transitions and audio, rather than testing only a static image or a different scene.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health messages in Live Control Room and OBS’s dropped-frame count while the test runs.
- Repeat under representative network use if conditions vary during the day. A successful short test does not establish long-term ISP stability; there is no universally sufficient test duration specified by YouTube.
YouTube Help advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” Read its live encoder guidance and stream-health guidance while checking your test.

4. Troubleshoot OBS dropped frames
OBS Project explains: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” A rising dropped-frame count points to the broadcaster-to-ingest connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain; OBS says this issue is typically outside OBS’s control. Use the OBS stream connection troubleshooting guide.
- Reduce the demand first: lower bitrate, resolution, or frame rate if upload capacity is insufficient or variable.
- Check the local link: use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if your computer and router support it. A cable can improve the local connection, but cannot increase Airtel’s upstream capacity or fix ISP congestion or a route problem to YouTube.
- Try another YouTube ingest server: if your encoder configuration permits it, test whether a different ingest endpoint is more stable.
- Consider dynamic bitrate carefully: OBS documents this option for reducing bitrate during congestion. It may help preserve continuity, but it lowers video quality and does not fix the underlying connection problem. A lower fixed bitrate may suit a channel that needs consistent image quality.
- Use Windows-only network options only where applicable: OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing for Windows; they are not universal remedies.
5. Tell broadcaster connection trouble from viewer buffering
OBS dropped frames concern the connection from the broadcaster to YouTube’s ingest server. Viewer playback buffering can occur even when OBS reports no dropped frames, because the viewer’s device and network are different. If OBS and YouTube show a healthy incoming stream, investigate viewer playback conditions before lowering the broadcaster’s bitrate without evidence.

6. What Airtel broadband figures can—and cannot—tell you
Airtel’s broadband plan page lists speed tiers and notes that availability depends on location. Its Xstream Fiber terms say listed speeds are maximum prescribed speeds and actual speeds may vary because of congestion, technical reasons, or other conditions. A plan’s advertised speed—particularly its download speed—does not establish a particular upload rate or a stable route to YouTube. Measure your own connection; if results show a persistent problem, contact Airtel about your line and locality.
The Airtel terms page accessed in 2026 lists a 3,333 GB fair-usage threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced; Airtel says the policy may be amended. Check the terms that apply to your own plan and location. A continuous stream uses data according to its bitrate and duration, and other household traffic may also count toward the plan’s quota.

7. Adjust settings to the stream’s needs
- Resolution and frame rate: choose 1080p or 720p and 30 or 60 fps based on the visual needs of the playlist and your upload margin.
- Fixed or dynamic bitrate: a stable fixed CBR setting can protect consistent quality; dynamic bitrate can reduce quality during congestion to help maintain continuity.
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi: Ethernet can improve the local computer-to-router link where available, but does not solve upstream or ISP-route problems.
- Latency: YouTube notes that lower latency may increase playback buffering. Prioritize interaction only if the broadcast needs it.
- Plan versus measured service: compare location-specific availability and measured upload behavior, not just advertised maximum speed.
No single resolution, bitrate, Airtel plan, or OBS setting is established as best for every connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Airtel 100 Mbps plan guarantee a stable OBS livestream?
No. Airtel describes listed speeds as maximums, and actual service can vary. Measure the upload available to your streaming computer.
Should I lower bitrate if viewers report buffering but OBS shows no dropped frames?
Not automatically. First check YouTube stream health and the viewer’s device and network; viewer-side buffering is distinct from broadcaster-to-ingest dropped frames.
