To loop a prerecorded video into YouTube Live from an Indian VPS, create a live event, copy its RTMPS URL and stream key, put the video on the server, and run FFmpeg with real-time input and looping enabled. Then verify the picture, sound, and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. The command below is an adaptable starting point, not an officially endorsed or tested configuration; adjust it to your file, FFmpeg build, and chosen output profile.
Before you start
- A YouTube channel with access to Live Control Room and a live event configured for the broadcast.
- An Indian VPS that can read your media file and sustain outbound traffic to YouTube’s ingest endpoint. There is no source-backed universal CPU or memory minimum for this task.
- An FFmpeg build with the needed video and audio encoders and RTMPS support. Available protocols and encoders depend on how that build was configured.
- A video file you have the right to broadcast, with usable audio and video streams.
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Use the exact endpoint and key shown for your event; do not reuse a hostname or key copied from an unrelated example.
1. Create the YouTube Live event and copy its credentials
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or schedule the stream.
- Open Stream settings and reveal or copy the RTMPS URL. The interface may initially show an ordinary RTMP URL, so check that the selected address begins with
rtmps. - Copy the stream key separately. Treat it as a publishing credential: do not put it in screenshots, public shell transcripts, source control, or support requests.
YouTube’s instructions for selecting the secure URL and copying the key are in its live encoder settings guide. The stream key belongs in the destination URL only on the VPS where FFmpeg runs; never publish the completed URL.
2. Prepare the VPS and check FFmpeg
Install and inspect the build
Install FFmpeg using the package source supported by your VPS operating system, then check the installed build rather than assuming it includes every feature. FFmpeg documents ffmpeg -protocols as a way to list available protocols. Check that the build also provides the encoder you intend to use, such as libx264, and AAC support if your command encodes AAC audio.

Put the video where the streaming account can read it
Upload the media file to the VPS, note its full path, and confirm that the account running FFmpeg can read it. Check that the file contains the audio and video tracks you expect. If there is no audio, multiple tracks, or an unusual frame rate, the sample command may need explicit stream mapping or other changes.
Choose a VPS for the actual workload
Do not treat an advertised port speed as proof of sustained upload capacity, or as a recommendation for a particular plan. For a continuous stream, check the provider’s transfer allowance and overage policy, and whether outbound TLS traffic to YouTube is permitted. If you transcode, CPU demand depends on codec, resolution, frame rate, and encoder preset. Measure FFmpeg’s resource use on your intended workload; the available YouTube and FFmpeg documentation does not establish an Indian VPS provider, plan, price, CPU/RAM minimum, or regional bandwidth guarantee.

3. Choose the output profile
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; up to 60 frames per second; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. YouTube also lists Rec. 709 for SDR and recommends stereo AAC at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. Its guidance says resolution and frame rate can be detected automatically; manual settings are available with a custom stream key. See YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and choose settings appropriate to your file and event.

These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not independent performance measurements or VPS plan specifications. The VPS must sustain the video bitrate plus audio and protocol overhead, with practical headroom for network variation. Verify sustainable upload to the actual ingest endpoint and account for the provider’s traffic policy.
4. Start an illustrative looping stream
This example targets a 720p30 H.264/AAC output near YouTube’s stated H.264 video bitrate recommendation. Adjust scaling, frame rate, bitrate, audio handling, and mapping for your media rather than copying it blindly. Replace the destination with the exact RTMPS endpoint, path, and key format supplied for your event.

These are example encoder parameters, not VPS bandwidth guarantees.-g 60requests a 60-frame GOP, which is two seconds at the command’s 30 fps output.-f flvselects the common RTMP-family output container.
The command is an illustrative synthesis, not a command published or tested by YouTube or FFmpeg in the cited documentation. FFmpeg builds differ; check for the selected encoders and RTMPS support before relying on it. If the source has no audio, more than one audio track, a different frame rate, or needs scaling, adapt stream mapping and filters. The output format or encoder settings may also need changing to match the stream profile you selected.
For RTMPS, use the exact current endpoint from Live Control Room. Google’s ingestion protocol guide describes RTMPS as RTMP tunneled through SSL and specifies port 443 and SNI using the server hostname. Incorrect host, path, port, or TLS/SNI handling can lead to timeouts or SSL errors.
5. Verify the stream before relying on it
- Start FFmpeg while the YouTube event is configured. Read its output for input, stream-mapping, encoder, and connection errors.
- Check the event preview and YouTube’s stream-health state. A running FFmpeg process by itself does not prove YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.
- Play a representative sample and verify both picture and sound. YouTube recommends testing with movement and audio representative of the intended stream.
- During the broadcast, monitor stream health and review any messages in Live Control Room.
For a long-running loop, process supervision and alerting may help restart the process or notify an operator after failure. Reconnect behavior and continuity depend on the chosen FFmpeg build and VPS; test them rather than assuming a restart will resume seamlessly.

Troubleshooting
FFmpeg cannot connect or times out
- Recheck the exact event endpoint, path, and key, and confirm that you are using the RTMPS URL rather than an old or unrelated destination.
- Check that outbound traffic is permitted by the VPS firewall and provider, including TLS to port 443.
- Check whether the FFmpeg build supports RTMPS and whether the connection uses the hostname needed for SNI. A successful TCP connection alone does not confirm that application-level ingest is configured correctly.
SSL or certificate error
Confirm the URL uses rtmps, the expected port is 443, and the FFmpeg build has working RTMPS/TLS support. Verify that the destination hostname is the one supplied by YouTube; do not replace it with a guessed or hard-coded example.
FFmpeg exits or reports an encoder error
Check the input path and file permissions, then inspect available protocols and encoders in the installed build. A command that requests libx264 or AAC cannot work if that build lacks the relevant encoder. If the source has no audio or has multiple tracks, revise the command’s mapping and audio options.
YouTube shows unhealthy video or missing sound
Check that the selected output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval match the event profile and YouTube’s guidance. Confirm the command maps the intended video and audio tracks, then test playback in the preview. Do not use the FFmpeg process state as the only health check.

The stream stops during a long run
Check FFmpeg’s logs, VPS resource use, outbound network stability, and provider traffic limits. Add monitoring or process supervision if appropriate, and test how your specific build and server behave after a disconnect; the documented specifications do not guarantee seamless recovery.
6. Compare Indian VPS options against your stream
No provider or plan can be ranked on the available provider-specific evidence. For each candidate, verify these details with the provider and test the workload where possible:
- Sustained upload: capacity to the YouTube ingest endpoint with margin above the combined stream bitrate.
- Traffic terms: included monthly transfer, fair-use limits, and overage charges for continuous outbound video.
- Compute: enough CPU for your chosen codec, resolution, frame rate, and preset if transcoding; judge with actual FFmpeg load.
- Network access: outbound RTMPS/TLS connectivity to port 443 and stability from the specific India region.
- Storage and operations: enough disk for the media and logs, plus a way to monitor and restart the process.
Encoding bitrate, advertised network port speed, and monthly transfer allowance are different things. Confirm all three rather than choosing a VPS from one headline figure.
