Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you are broadcasting prerecorded files through OBS, turn off the repeat option in the source that sends them: disable Loop for one Media Source, or Loop Playlist for a VLC Video source with multiple files. If you are watching a YouTube playlist rather than broadcasting one, turn off Loop in YouTube’s player controls instead. Those are separate controls: changing viewer playback does not change what an encoder sends to YouTube Live.
First identify what is repeating
The right fix depends on where the repeat happens:
| What you are doing | Setting to check | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Watching a playlist on YouTube | YouTube player’s Loop control | Viewer playback of a video or playlist |
| Broadcasting one local file with OBS | Media Source → Loop | Whether that file starts again after it finishes |
| Broadcasting several local files with OBS | VLC Video → Loop Playlist | Whether the sequence restarts after its files finish |
YouTube describes Live as receiving a feed from an encoder. Repetition of prerecorded source media is therefore controlled on the encoder side, not by a viewer’s YouTube Loop setting. YouTube’s separate HLS ingestion guidance concerns assembling live media segments, not a playlist of program videos; its rolling-playlist instruction limits outstanding segments to five and applies to HLS ingestion specifically, not every YouTube Live setup. Stop a YouTube playlist from repeating while you watch
YouTube’s player can repeat a single video or an entire playlist. Expand the playlist controls and switch off Loop. If only the current video is repeating, clear the single-video repeat state. YouTube documents controls for desktop, mobile, TV and game consoles, so the exact gestures vary by device; use the playlist controls shown in the player for the device you are using. See YouTube’s device-specific instructions.
Stop one OBS file from replaying
- In OBS, locate the active scene containing the prerecorded video and select its Media Source.
- Open that source’s properties. Use the source’s documented property labels in your installed OBS version; exact menu placement can vary by operating system and build.
- Turn off Loop, then apply the change.
- Confirm that the intended source is active and let the file reach its end to verify it does not start again.
OBS describes Loop as the setting that determines whether the file plays again after playback completes. OBS Media Sources documentation

Stop an OBS playlist of files from restarting
- Add or select the VLC Video source that contains the files you want to broadcast.
- Open the source properties and turn off Loop Playlist.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off if the files should play in their listed order. Shuffle changes ordering; it does not stop the sequence from repeating.
- Check that the intended files are present in the source playlist and that this source is in the active scene. Verify the behavior by allowing the sequence to reach its end.
The VLC Video source requires VLC to be installed. OBS notes that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS describes Loop Playlist as controlling whether the source restarts when it runs out of media files. OBS Media Sources documentation
Troubleshoot the repeat that remains
- The YouTube watch page repeats, but the live output does not: turn off Loop in the viewer’s playlist controls. That control affects playback for the person watching, not the encoder’s feed.
- A single OBS file starts over: check the active Media Source’s Loop property.
- A multi-file sequence starts over at the end: check the VLC Video source’s Loop Playlist property.
- The files play in an unexpected order: check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled.
- The settings appear correct, but the broadcast is unchanged: confirm that you edited the source used in the active scene and that its playlist contains the intended files. These are configuration checks, not a diagnosis of any particular OBS setup.
- The VLC Video source is unavailable or cannot play its files: check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS; OBS specifies 64-bit VLC for 64-bit OBS.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded videos playing on a YouTube channel without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. The stream uses your uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers; if YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers.
