Multistreaming can help expand your reach by making the same live broadcast available on platforms where different viewers prefer to watch. It is a distribution strategy, not a guarantee that YouTube will recommend your channel more often or that viewers on another platform will subscribe to you on YouTube.
What multistreaming can—and cannot—do for YouTube growth
YouTube calls multistreaming “simulstreaming”: broadcasting the same live content to more than one platform at once. The potential benefit is broader availability. Someone who does not usually watch YouTube may find the broadcast on another service.
That outside reach does not automatically become YouTube reach. YouTube’s guidance explains how simulstreaming can make a broadcast available where viewers prefer to watch, but it does not establish that multistreaming itself increases YouTube recommendations or converts viewers on other platforms into YouTube subscribers. Treat growth as something to measure, not a promised outcome. YouTube’s simulstreaming guidance describes the distribution options and trade-offs.
Choose how to send the broadcast to multiple platforms
The right setup depends on your computer, number of destinations, desired control, and willingness to use a cloud service. YouTube distinguishes local encoders from cloud-based services; it does not endorse a particular service or establish current plan limits for individual providers.

YouTube notes that cloud services may offer free plans with varying limits and paid plans with additional capabilities. Check a provider’s current supported destinations and plan terms before relying on it. A local encoder runs on your device; a cloud service receives a stream and distributes it onward. Prepare and test before your first multistream
YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder livestreaming paths. An encoder is useful for gameplay, overlays, and setups using equipment such as microphones, cameras, and preamps. You do not need expensive equipment to start; choose a setup that suits your content and test it before an important broadcast.

- Confirm YouTube eligibility. Your channel must be verified, live streaming must be enabled, and the channel must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check the current YouTube live-streaming setup requirements before scheduling.
- Set up each destination. Make sure you can access the other platform accounts and have the correct stream credentials for each destination. Follow the current instructions from each platform and encoder; do not assume one platform’s key or settings work for another.
- Check your connection and encoder. Confirm that your upload connection can support the streams you plan to send, then test the encoder and its destination settings. YouTube’s guidance does not specify a universal upload-speed figure for every multistream setup, so use the requirements for your encoder and destinations.
- Run a test broadcast. Review the Live Control Room preview before going live. Check audio and video quality while the stream is running, then confirm the archive is intact and the stream is accessible from your channel or watch page and on mobile devices.
- Review the content and rights. Make sure you have the necessary rights for the video, music, and other material in the broadcast on every destination. Platform rules can differ; check the relevant rules rather than assuming permission on one service covers another.
YouTube’s encoder livestreaming guidance covers encoder workflows and testing. A USB microphone is optional if your current audio is not usable; buying equipment is neither a requirement for multistreaming nor a demonstrated way to grow an audience.
Measure whether the approach helps your YouTube channel
Separate discovery, appeal, and retention in your review. YouTube’s livestream analytics guidance identifies metrics that help you tell whether people encountered a stream on YouTube, chose to watch, stayed, or arrived from elsewhere.

- Impressions and click-through rate: Impressions count thumbnail displays on YouTube, not on external sites or apps. Click-through rate indicates how often viewers watched after seeing the thumbnail.
- Views and average view duration: Views show viewing activity; average view duration is the average number of minutes watched per view.
- Traffic sources: These reports can show how viewers found a stream, including YouTube search, suggested videos, playlists, and external sources. Search-term information can help you understand discovery within YouTube.
- Concurrent viewers, watch time, retention, and new subscribers: These livestream measures add context about live audience size, viewing, and subscription outcomes. Analytics and Live Control Room figures can differ, and some reports may not be available in both places.
Use YouTube Analytics for live-stream content to review these measures and traffic sources. Compare similar livestreams over comparable date ranges: match topic, format, length, schedule, title and thumbnail approach, and promotion as closely as practical. Look at YouTube impressions and traffic sources alongside views, average view duration, concurrent viewers, and new subscribers. This is a useful comparison method, not a controlled test: the official guidance provides no multistreaming-specific growth benchmark or causal estimate of subscriber gains.
Use YouTube Live Redirect as a separate follow-on tactic
Live Redirect is not multistreaming. It sends viewers from an eligible YouTube livestream to a Premiere or another live stream after the broadcast ends, which can help maintain viewing continuity or support a collaboration. To redirect viewers to another channel, that channel must permit redirects. YouTube’s current help page says the sending channel must have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. Check YouTube’s Live Redirect requirements for current eligibility details.
