A 24/7 Bitcoin price stream needs three things running continuously: a market-data feed, a graphic that displays the feed, and an encoder that sends the picture to YouTube. YouTube provides the live destination, but it does not keep your data connection or encoder alive for you. For the do-it-yourself route, plan for reconnects, stale-data warnings, and recovery after a restart—not just a chart that works once.
What you need to keep running
Think of the stream as three connected systems. If any one stops, the displayed price can freeze or the YouTube broadcast can end.
- Market data: A feed supplies a chosen venue and trading pair, such as BTC/USDT on a named exchange. Quotes differ across exchanges and pairs, so label the source on screen rather than presenting it as one universal Bitcoin price.
- Visual rendering: A chart, ticker, or other graphic turns the feed into a video frame. Include the venue, pair, currency, and last-update time so viewers can interpret the number and notice stale data.
- Encoding and delivery: Encoder software sends the rendered video to YouTube over a live-stream connection. The computer or hosted service running the encoder, plus the data feed and rendering process, must be maintained for continuous updates.
The YouTube API distinguishes the incoming liveStream resource, which carries content and streaming settings, from the liveBroadcast resource representing the event viewers watch. Its documentation describes a 24/7 broadcast resource kept distinct from other event broadcasts; that API model does not itself keep an encoder or market feed connected. YouTube Live Streaming API resource documentation.
Check YouTube eligibility before setting up an encoder
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days to enable live streaming; its help page also states that streamers must be at least 16. Encoder is one supported way to go live. Check the current channel eligibility and live-stream access before building the rest of the setup. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
Choose a price feed and design for interruptions
Identify the quote precisely
Choose a market-data provider and a specific venue/pair, then display that context with the price. A BTC/USDT quote is not interchangeable with a BTC/USD quote, and two venues may show different prices at the same moment. The available sources do not establish one best provider or resolve regional availability, so check the provider’s terms, access, and connection behavior for your own use.
Plan for a feed disconnect
Binance’s Spot API WebSocket documentation says one connection is valid for 24 hours and clients should expect it to disconnect at that point. A continuous display using that example therefore needs to reconnect and avoid silently presenting an old quote as current. This is one exchange’s documented connection lifecycle, not a recommendation that Binance is the only or best feed. Binance Spot API WebSocket Streams.

- Show a last-update time alongside the quote.
- Decide what the graphic displays when updates stop—for example, a visible stale-data warning instead of an unchanged number that appears live.
- Test the feed’s disconnect and recovery behavior, including what happens after the rendering or host process restarts.
These are practical reliability checks; the cited documentation does not prescribe heartbeat logic, retry intervals, backoff, failover sources, or restart configuration. Implement and verify those details for the feed and software you choose.
Set up the encoder and YouTube broadcast
- Create a live broadcast in YouTube Studio. Start a live stream using the encoder workflow and use the broadcast/event settings appropriate for a continuously running channel. Keep the broadcast resource intended for the 24/7 stream separate from unrelated scheduled or one-off events if you manage broadcasts through the API.
- Copy the stream key into the encoder. YouTube supplies the connection details for encoder ingestion. Treat the key as a secret: do not put it in a public overlay, screenshot, or source-code repository. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Use RTMPS when available. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP, for delivery to its servers. Use the server address and stream key shown in the current YouTube interface rather than copying connection details from an old guide. YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Start with a readable output. For a mostly static price graphic, 720p or 1080p at 30 fps is a reasonable editorial starting point. YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are 3 Mbps for 720p/30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p/30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not guaranteed minimum internet plans; the actual upload connection must sustain the stream with headroom.
- Run a preflight test. Check legibility on a phone-sized screen, confirm that the quote and update time change, and verify that the encoder reaches YouTube without health warnings. YouTube advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream. During the event, monitor the stream health and review messages.”
For a price-only display, decide whether audio is needed and test the stream as viewers will encounter it. Do not assume a static image is sufficient just because the encoder reports a connection; watch the actual output and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages while live.

Keep the stream unattended
A successful first launch is not proof of continuous operation. Keep the feed client, graphic renderer, encoder, and host operating; arrange for the relevant processes to restart after a failure if your chosen setup supports it; and verify that a restart restores both fresh prices and the YouTube connection. The reviewed platform and API documentation does not establish a tested unattended deployment, minimum computer specification, or guaranteed uptime. A mini PC or another always-on computer is one possible host, but verify that it runs your selected software reliably at the chosen output settings rather than relying on a generic hardware minimum.
- Watch YouTube stream health: respond to warnings and confirm the broadcast is still receiving video.
- Watch data freshness: make stale or disconnected data obvious instead of allowing a frozen quote to look current.
- Test recovery deliberately: verify what happens after a feed disconnection and an encoder or host restart before relying on the stream.
- Check upload capacity: test the real internet connection at the selected bitrate and leave headroom for normal variation.
Copyright, reused content, and what viewers see
Use a feed and visual assets you are entitled to display, and review the provider’s terms and YouTube’s current policies. This guide’s cited sources do not establish how YouTube will assess a particular automated, price-only broadcast, whether it will be eligible for monetization, or how its archive behavior will work. Do not assume that adding a live encoder makes third-party charts, music, or other material yours to reuse. Make the stream’s source and update time clear to viewers, and check YouTube’s current rules before publishing.
