Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo connect OBS Studio to AWS, first identify the destination: an Amazon IVS low-latency channel, an IVS real-time stage, or an AWS Elemental MediaLive input. They use different endpoints and credentials, so there is no single AWS server address or stream key that works for all three. For an IVS channel, AWS documents an OBS integration; for an IVS real-time stage, use the stage’s ingest configuration; for MediaLive, follow the setup for its RTMP VPC push input.
Choose the AWS destination before configuring OBS
These services serve different workflows. An IVS low-latency channel is a channel broadcast destination. An IVS real-time stage is for publishing into a real-time stage. MediaLive is a separate video-processing service with its own input setup. Create and configure the AWS resource first; OBS cannot create it just by pressing Start Streaming.
| Destination | Typical OBS connection path | Use the details generated for |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon IVS low-latency channel | AWS service integration for RTMPS, or Custom for the documented SRT setup | The specific IVS channel |
| Amazon IVS real-time stage | Settings > Stream > Custom | The stage’s ingest configuration |
| AWS Elemental MediaLive | Follow the RTMP VPC push input setup | The MediaLive input and its AWS configuration |
Do not reuse an IVS endpoint or key for MediaLive, or a channel’s credentials for a real-time stage. Keep stream keys private: anyone with valid publishing credentials may be able to send video to that destination.
Connect OBS to an Amazon IVS low-latency channel
AWS’s OBS walkthrough covers streaming to an IVS channel with RTMPS and uses OBS Studio v30.2 or later. Have the channel created and its channel-specific connection details available. The service selection and credentials must correspond to that channel; do not copy a sample endpoint or key from an example.

- Open the channel’s connection details in AWS. Obtain the ingest endpoint and stream key for the IVS channel you intend to use.
- Open OBS’s stream settings. In OBS, open Settings > Stream.
- Select the Amazon IVS service option. Use the channel’s supplied connection details in the fields OBS presents. Follow the AWS setup guide for the current field mapping and endpoint format.
- Set the keyframe interval to two seconds. AWS recommends a two-second keyframe interval for the documented low-latency channel setup.
- Apply the settings and start a test stream. Confirm that the intended IVS channel receives the program before treating the setup as ready for a live production.
AWS’s guide also supports SRT for IVS low-latency channels. In OBS, choose Custom; enter the SRT connection string in Server, using the endpoint, port, stream ID, and applicable passphrase supplied for the channel. For this documented SRT setup, leave OBS’s separate Stream Key field empty. SRT connection details differ from RTMPS, so use the channel-specific values displayed by AWS rather than assembling a URL from a sample.
Connect OBS to an Amazon IVS real-time stage
For a real-time stage, create an ingest configuration associated with the stage before configuring OBS. Its endpoint and stream key are for that ingest configuration, not for an IVS low-latency channel.

- Create or select the stage and its ingest configuration in AWS, then retrieve the ingest endpoint and stream key.
- Open OBS at Settings > Stream. Set Service to Custom.
- Set Server to the stage ingest endpoint, including the protocol provided for that configuration.
- Set Stream Key to the ingest configuration’s key.
- Use RTMPS unless you have a deliberate, verified reason to use RTMP. The ingest configuration’s
insecureIngestsetting defaults to false, so RTMP is not accepted unless insecure ingest is explicitly enabled. AWS recommends RTMPS. - Configure the encoder for the real-time RTMP limits before testing (see the next section).
OBS encoder settings for IVS real-time RTMP
The limits below apply specifically to RTMP publishing to an IVS real-time stage; they are not general limits for every IVS channel or AWS ingest service. AWS documents H.264 video, no B-frames, a maximum input resolution of 720p, a video bitrate ceiling of 8.5 Mbps, and both audio and video tracks for this real-time RTMP path.
| Setting | IVS real-time RTMP guidance | Practical OBS choice |
|---|---|---|
| Video codec | H.264 | Select an H.264 encoder, not an incompatible video codec. |
| Resolution | Up to 720p | Set output resolution to 1280 Ă— 720 or lower. |
| Video bitrate | Up to 8.5 Mbps | Keep the configured maximum below the service ceiling. AWS gives 6 Mbps as an example because encoders may briefly exceed their target. |
| B-frames | Not supported | Disable B-frames in the selected encoder. |
| Keyframe interval | AWS recommends one or two seconds | Choose one or two seconds. |
| Encoder tuning | AWS suggests settings such as veryfast and zerolatency |
Use these where available in the chosen encoder. |
| Tracks | Both audio and video are required | Ensure OBS is sending an audio track as well as video. |
In OBS, encoder options are available under Settings > Output; the exact controls shown depend on the encoder you select. Check the active encoder’s options rather than assuming every encoder exposes identical labels. A bitrate target at the documented ceiling can still exceed it temporarily, which is why AWS advises leaving headroom.

Connect OBS to AWS Elemental MediaLive
MediaLive is not an IVS channel or stage. AWS documents an RTMP VPC push input path that includes VPC configuration and a role for MediaLive to assume. Set up the MediaLive input and its AWS-side prerequisites, then configure OBS with that input’s own connection details as directed by AWS. Do not substitute IVS endpoints, keys, or OBS field instructions for MediaLive credentials. The exact input configuration depends on the MediaLive resource and VPC setup.
What OBS contributes—and what AWS must provide
OBS creates the program you send: for example, a documentary playback scene, webcam, capture card, game capture, or display capture. Such sources are choices for the content of the program, not prerequisites for connecting OBS to AWS. OBS supports both included service integrations and custom streaming servers, where you supply the server and stream key details. The destination resource, endpoint, credentials, and any AWS roles or network configuration must be prepared on the AWS side.

Troubleshoot a failed connection
- OBS connects to the wrong destination or fails immediately: Check whether you created an IVS channel, an IVS real-time stage ingest configuration, or a MediaLive input. Use that resource’s endpoint and credentials; these are not interchangeable.
- Stage ingest rejects RTMP: The real-time ingest configuration defaults to
insecureIngest: false. Use its RTMPS endpoint, or only enable insecure RTMP if you have a deliberate, verified need and have configured the AWS resource accordingly. - SRT does not connect: Recheck the channel-specific SRT endpoint, port, stream ID, and passphrase. For the documented OBS SRT setup, place those components in Server and do not put a key in the separate stream-key field.
- Real-time video is rejected or unstable: Confirm H.264, resolution no higher than 720p, bitrate below the 8.5 Mbps ceiling with headroom, disabled B-frames, and a one- or two-second keyframe interval. Confirm that both audio and video tracks are present.
- OBS starts but the expected AWS destination is not receiving the program: Recheck the selected resource and its credentials, then verify that the AWS resource and its required configuration exist. Starting OBS does not create a channel, stage ingest configuration, or MediaLive input.
- The OBS controls do not match a guide: Confirm the OBS version and selected service or encoder. AWS’s cited low-latency quick-start uses OBS Studio v30.2 or later; custom-server and encoder controls can vary with the selected configuration.
Or let it run in the cloud
