Use live streaming to give a specific audience something useful in real time: a product demonstration, launch explanation, expert conversation, or question-and-answer session. A live broadcast creates an opportunity to interact, not a guarantee of reach or sales. Choose the platform for your audience and format, promote the event before it starts, and plan how you will follow up and reuse the recording afterward.
Start with one audience and one outcome
Decide who the session is for and what viewers should get from it. A focused topic is easier to promote and more useful to attend than a general invitation to “join us live.”
- Explain a product: show how a feature works and answer practical questions.
- Demonstrate a process: walk through a task viewers want to learn.
- Introduce a launch: explain what is changing and give viewers time to ask questions.
- Host an expert conversation: invite a relevant guest and make the subject clear in advance.
- Support a community: hold a discussion or recurring question session around a shared interest.
Choose one next step that fits the session, such as registering for a follow-up, visiting a relevant page, or submitting a question. Keep it relevant to the content rather than making the broadcast an extended sales pitch.
Choose a platform that fits the audience and format
Compare where your intended viewers already spend time, how they can discover the event, what access requirements apply, how people can interact, and what you can do with the recording. Platform features and policies change, so verify current rules before scheduling.

| Platform | Useful fit | Access and format considerations | Promotion and follow-up |
|---|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Brands seeking a general video audience, searchable video, or a mix of live and recorded content. | YouTube documents mobile, webcam, encoder, and console workflows. Vertical live streams can be discovered in the Shorts feed. Eligible creators can stream horizontal and vertical formats at the same time through Live Control Room; the formats share one live chat and have combined metrics during and after the stream, while vertical-only metrics appear later. See YouTube’s live streaming guidance. | Consider how the live event and its recording will fit your channel and future video publishing. |
| LinkedIn Live | Professional discussions, industry expertise, and business communities. | A member or Page must meet LinkedIn’s access criteria and use a third-party broadcasting tool. LinkedIn says more than 150 followers and/or connections, along with a history of abiding by its Professional Community Policies, makes a member or Page eligible to be evaluated for access; this is not a guarantee of approval. See LinkedIn’s access criteria. | LinkedIn recommends using an event page to promote and manage an event, including registration and speaker details. Its guidance also covers sharing highlights and following up with attendees. See LinkedIn’s Live Events guide. |
| TikTok Shop LIVE | Commerce-oriented brands using TikTok Shop in the United States. | TikTok Shop’s US Brand LIVE Playbook describes platform-specific commerce tools; its recommendations should not be assumed to apply in other countries or on other platforms. | The playbook describes scheduled LIVE events, video-to-LIVE posts, audience reactivation, giveaways, clips, and LIVE analytics. See the US Brand LIVE Playbook, dated September 16, 2026. |
For a LinkedIn stream, check the platform’s separate content guidance before choosing a promotional format: LinkedIn advises, “Avoid selling or promotional streams.” That direction is specific to LinkedIn Live, not a universal rule for live video.
Prepare the event and broadcast
A phone or computer webcam may be sufficient for a straightforward session. For a more controlled encoder-based production, YouTube lists equipment such as cameras, microphones, and preamps. Add equipment only when it solves a real problem; a USB microphone for live streaming may help when clearer voice audio is important, but it is not a prerequisite.

- Write a run of show. Plan an opening that states the subject and audience, the main demonstration or discussion, time for questions, and a closing action.
- Schedule and promote the event. Use the platform’s event or scheduling features where available. Share the topic, date, time, speakers, and a clear reason to attend.
- Test the setup. Check camera framing, audio, lighting, internet connection, title, graphics, and any links you plan to show. Confirm that the selected platform workflow is available to your account.
- Plan moderation. Decide how you will handle questions, irrelevant comments, and any technical interruptions. If staffing allows, have one person present while another monitors chat.
- Check rights and claims. Use content you have permission to show, keep product claims accurate, and disclose material relationships where applicable.
Host for participation and clarity
Start by telling viewers what the session covers and who it is for. Deliver the useful material promptly, then invite questions at planned points. Repeat or summarize questions before answering so viewers who arrive late can follow the conversation. Keep the call to action clear and proportionate to the event.
YouTube describes live streaming as interaction with an audience through video and chat. The useful marketing opportunity is that you can respond while the event is happening; that alone does not establish that a stream will reach more people or generate sales.

- Share the recording or useful clips where platform rules and content rights permit.
- For LinkedIn events, consider the platform’s recommendations to share recording highlights and follow up with registrants using resources or email.
- For TikTok Shop in the United States, the Brand LIVE Playbook describes segmenting viewers and reusing strong moments to support a future session.
Plan reuse before the event: note likely highlight moments and make sure anyone appearing on camera understands how the recording may be shared.

Measure results against the session’s goal
Pick measures that correspond to the outcome you set. Depending on the platform and event, these may include views or attendance, average watch time, comments and questions, tracked clicks or registrations, and qualified actions tied to the session. Compare a broadcast with its own objective and with similar earlier sessions; platforms define and expose metrics differently.
TikTok Shop’s US playbook specifically points to LIVE analytics for examining audience sources and traffic tools. Its platform-specific advice is not a general performance benchmark. No broadly applicable conversion, engagement, or reach result follows from the fact that a brand went live.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your brand wants a YouTube channel to stay live with pre-recorded videos between events, StreamNeo is a separate option from hosting an interactive, camera-led event. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud.
- Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on.
- Each slot streams the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
- Automatic recovery is available if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, once per account. A slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, and StreamNeo team support.
StreamNeo is for uploaded videos streamed to YouTube, not for going live from a camera. It does not replace a hosted brand event with a presenter and live audience interaction. See StreamNeo for service details. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month.
