Restream delivers your broadcast to YouTube; YouTube Studio or Live Control Room is where you choose a Live Redirect destination. Set the redirect on the YouTube source stream or Premiere, then end the source stream so YouTube can move viewers to an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream. The sending channel needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes, and another channel must allow your redirect.
What Restream does—and what YouTube does
Restream connects to YouTube and handles broadcast delivery and event setup. YouTube controls the redirect: its documented workflow is configured in YouTube Studio or Live Control Room, not through a Restream redirect toggle. The redirect takes effect when the source stream ends; YouTube says autoplay moves viewers to the Premiere or live stream you selected.
| Task | Where to do it |
|---|---|
| Connect your YouTube channel and prepare or select a broadcast event | Restream |
| Choose the Premiere or live stream viewers should be sent to | YouTube Studio or Live Control Room |
| End the source and, if required by the event settings, end the YouTube event | Restream and/or YouTube, depending on auto-stop |
Requirements and permissions
Sender eligibility
YouTube’s current Help guidance, accessed in 2026, requires the sending channel to have more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If the redirect option is unavailable, check both requirements on the channel that is sending viewers.
Permission from another channel
You can direct viewers to another channel’s live stream only if that channel permits redirects from your channel. A recipient can allow subscribed channels, all channels, or specific channels on a manually approved list. The manual list supports up to 100 channels. The “all channels” choice cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manually approved-list options.

Destination availability
The target must be an eligible, available Premiere or live stream that matches the recipient’s permission settings. TeamYouTube’s announcement describes eligible choices as active or upcoming live streams and upcoming Premieres. If no matching destination exists—or the receiving channel has not allowed your channel—the destination may not appear in the selector.
Set up Live Redirect when streaming through Restream
- Connect the channel in Restream. Open Channels, choose Add New, select YouTube, authorize the account, and return to Restream. Restream says the connected account must be the channel owner; a manager or editor account is not sufficient.
- Enable YouTube live streaming. If the channel has never streamed live, complete YouTube’s phone verification and allow for the 24-hour activation wait described in Restream Help guidance.
- Prepare the source event in Restream. Create or select the YouTube event. Restream documents Studio, RTMP, video-file, and playlist event paths; when using an existing scheduled YouTube event, select it from the event dropdown.
- Set the redirect in YouTube Studio. Open Content, select the Live tab, edit the source video, open Customization, and select Add under Redirect. Choose an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- Confirm the destination before going live. Check that the Premiere or live stream is available and that the receiving channel permits your redirect. YouTube recommends setting up the Premiere first. Tell viewers to wait a few seconds after the source ends while their screens reload.
- Run the source stream through Restream, then end it deliberately. When the source ends, YouTube displays a confirmation and redirects viewers. Check the event’s auto-stop behavior: if auto-stop is disabled for an existing YouTube event, Restream says you must click End Live on YouTube after stopping the Restream stream.
Why the redirect option or destination may be missing
- Sender channel is not eligible: confirm it has more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes.
- Recipient has not allowed your channel: ask the other channel to adjust its redirect permissions or approve your channel manually.
- No eligible target is available: create or schedule the Premiere or live stream first, and confirm it matches the recipient’s permissions.
- Wrong account or event: verify you connected the YouTube channel owner account in Restream and selected the intended YouTube event.
- First live stream is not enabled yet: complete phone verification and allow the activation period before troubleshooting the redirect itself.
End-of-stream and archive details
A redirect is tied to the source stream ending, not merely to stopping the encoder. If Restream stops but the YouTube event remains live because auto-stop is disabled, end the event in YouTube with End Live. Restream also states that YouTube has no stream-duration limit but archives only streams under 12 hours; that archive constraint is separate from Live Redirect eligibility.
