1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTo stream a prepared breathwork video on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, create a YouTube Live event, get its current ingest address and private stream key, then have FFmpeg loop the local file and send it to that endpoint. The exact command depends on the file’s streams, your FFmpeg build and the event’s settings, so inspect and test the media before going live.
What you need before you start
- A prepared video file you have the right to stream, with audio and video that you can test.
- A YouTube channel and a scheduled or active event in YouTube Live Control Room.
- FFmpeg installed on a computer that can read the file and remain connected for the broadcast.
- A stable upload connection with enough capacity for the video bitrate, plus a way to check YouTube’s stream health while live.
FFmpeg can repeat a file, but that does not by itself guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. The encoder process, network connection and YouTube ingest must all keep working.
Create the YouTube Live event and protect its key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room, then create or select the event. Interface labels can change.
- In the event’s stream settings, retrieve the current ingestion server address and stream key. Use the values associated with this event; do not assume a saved endpoint or key is current.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it in commands, screenshots, logs or source repositories. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio before streaming.
For RTMPS, YouTube’s guide specifies the rtmps protocol, a valid YouTube server and path, and port 443. RTMPS tunnels RTMP through SSL and is a suitable choice for ordinary user content, particularly when lower latency is desired. Use the exact endpoint provided for your event and check YouTube’s RTMPS ingestion guidance if you configure the address manually.
Choose resolution, frame rate and bitrate
YouTube detects the incoming resolution and frame rate by default in Live Control Room and transcodes a live input into multiple output formats. Choose output your upload connection can sustain reliably: run a speed test and leave headroom for normal network variation rather than setting the encoder at the connection’s absolute maximum. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance, accessed 2026, includes these recommendations:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Output | Recommended video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 240p–720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
These figures apply to the stated H.264 resolutions and frame rates; they are not universal settings for every codec or output. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the current recommendation matching your codec, resolution and frame rate. A static or slow-moving breathwork video may look acceptable at a lower setting, but do not choose a bitrate solely on the assumption that still imagery needs no testing.
YouTube’s stream-health diagnostics can flag unsupported audio or video codecs, audio sample-rate or bitrate issues, missing or extra audio/video streams, and keyframe intervals longer than four seconds. Its diagnostic guidance identifies H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio as supported. Check the current Live API health definitions alongside any messages shown in Live Control Room.
Inspect the file and build an FFmpeg command
Check the inputs before encoding
Use FFmpeg’s ffprobe tool, if included in your installation, to inspect the file’s duration, video and audio streams, codecs, frame rate, resolution and audio sample rate. For example:

ffprobe -hide_banner -i "breathwork.mp4"
Use the output to confirm that the file has the tracks you expect. A file without audio should not be mapped as if it has an audio stream. Likewise, do not assume its codecs, aspect ratio or frame rate. FFmpeg options and available encoders vary by build; consult the FFmpeg command-line documentation and all-options documentation for your installed version.
Use a looped input and send it to YouTube
For a known file with compatible streams, a typical pattern is to loop the input, map its video and audio, encode for RTMP-compatible delivery and send an FLV output to the event endpoint. One illustrative command is:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "breathwork.mp4" -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -b:v 4M -maxrate 4M -bufsize 8M -g 60 -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -f flv "rtmps://CURRENT_SERVER/CURRENT_PATH/STREAM_KEY"

This is a starting pattern, not a production-ready command for every file or event. Replace the endpoint locally with the exact current RTMPS address and key from Live Control Room; never publish or commit a real key. The example’s 4 Mbps video bitrate is only aligned with YouTube’s stated H.264 recommendation for 240p–720p at 30 fps. Set bitrate, frame rate, resolution, keyframe interval and audio options to match your chosen output and YouTube’s current guidance. In the example, -g 60 means a 60-frame GOP; its interval in seconds depends on the actual output frame rate. Confirm your installed FFmpeg accepts the options in this order and that the selected encoder is available.
FFmpeg documents -re as reading a file at its native rate to simulate a live input. Looping options and behavior should be tested with your particular file and build. If the file has no audio, remove the audio mapping and audio encoding options; if it has multiple tracks, select the intended stream rather than blindly mapping the first. If you need to scale or change frame rate, make that an explicit output choice and verify the result before the event.

Test the event and monitor the broadcast
- Start with a private or otherwise suitable test event and representative footage: include the session’s actual audio and movement, not just a still frame.
- Run FFmpeg and confirm Live Control Room receives the signal. Check that the image has the intended aspect ratio and that audio is audible, synchronized and not clipped.
- Read the stream-health messages. Investigate codec, bitrate, audio, resolution and keyframe warnings rather than assuming a connected encoder means the output is correct.
- During the live broadcast, monitor both FFmpeg’s output and YouTube’s stream health. A looped input does not recover a broken local process or network connection automatically.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the stream | Wrong or stale server address, path, protocol or key; event not ready; outbound connection problem. | Copy the current event’s ingest details again, verify RTMPS is configured as specified, and check that the computer can reach the endpoint on port 443. |
| FFmpeg exits or reports an option or encoder error | Option unsupported by the installed build, unavailable encoder, or incorrect option order. | Check ffmpeg -version, inspect available encoders with ffmpeg -encoders, and use the documentation for that build. Confirm the file path and each option. |
| Video streams but audio is absent | The file has no audio, the wrong stream was mapped, or the chosen audio codec/settings are unsuitable. | Inspect streams with ffprobe, map the intended audio track, and review YouTube’s health diagnostics. Remove audio options if there is no audio track. |
| Stream health reports bitrate or keyframe problems | Output settings do not match the selected resolution, frame rate, codec or current YouTube guidance. | Check the applicable YouTube settings table, actual encoder output and GOP interval; correct the settings, then test again. |
| Playback stutters or the connection drops | Upload capacity is inadequate or inconsistent, or local processing/network conditions are unstable. | Run a speed test, lower output quality to a sustainable setting, close competing uploads and monitor the connection during another test. |
| The picture is stretched, cropped or letterboxed unexpectedly | The source aspect ratio differs from the output frame or a scaling/cropping filter altered it. | Inspect the source dimensions and output settings; test the entire frame in Live Control Room before the public event. |
Keep a breathwork broadcast safe and accurately described
Keep the session’s instructions comfortable and non-forcing. NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Nervous System Regulation guidance, last updated 20 July 2026, advises taking a comfortable position, breathing at a comfortable rate, avoiding strain, and pausing or stopping if dizzy or lightheaded. These are general exercises; this technical setup does not establish that a session treats or prevents a medical condition.
