Yes, a Raspberry Pi 4 can encode a modest YouTube Live feed over JioFiber, but neither the Pi’s specifications nor JioFiber’s service claims guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 channel. Raspberry Pi lists H.264 encoding up to 1080p30; the outcome depends on your capture and encoder setup, stable upload, power, heat, and recovery after failures. YouTube’s current guidance supplies practical ingest settings, but the official pages cited here do not establish how YouTube handles a single broadcast beyond 12 hours. Treat this as a feasible DIY project—not a proven unattended setup—and verify long-stream handling before relying on one continuous event.
What the Pi 4 and JioFiber can—and cannot—establish
Raspberry Pi 4’s encoding ceiling
The official Raspberry Pi 4 Model B specification lists a Broadcom BCM2711 quad-core Cortex-A72 processor, Gigabit Ethernet, and “H.265 (4kp60 decode), H264 (1080p60 decode, 1080p30 encode).” That establishes H.264 encoding capability up to 1080p30; it does not certify a particular camera, capture device, filter chain, or application, and it is not a 24/7 runtime guarantee. JioFiber upload depends on your plan and connection
Jio describes JioFiber plans as symmetric for upload and download, with unlimited data, but the actual tier depends on the plan. Check your active plan and measure stable upload over the connection you intend to use; do not infer your available speed from the word “symmetric.” A wired Gigabit Ethernet connection from the Pi to a nearby router is a sensible fixed-encoder setup, though Ethernet does not prevent outages. Jio’s postpaid FAQ advertises “Highest quality service with 99.9% uptime.” This is Jio’s own service claim, not an independently measured result for your line or a guarantee that YouTube will remain live. Choose YouTube-compatible settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. For H.264, YouTube recommends 3 Mbps at 720p30 and 5 Mbps at 1080p30. These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not assurances that your uplink can sustain those rates. YouTube encoder settings.

A cautious first configuration is 720p30 H.264 with CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC audio. Set the bitrate below the stable upload capacity measured under representative conditions, rather than matching a peak speed-test result. The 720p suggestion is a practical starting point based on YouTube’s guidance, not a tested Pi preset. If you use a camera or other capture input, verify that your chosen software can capture it and encode at the intended settings on the Pi.

YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure form of RTMP. Google’s ingestion guide specifies a valid YouTube RTMPS ingestion endpoint and port 443. Prepare and test the DIY setup
- Confirm the source and workload. Decide whether the Pi will capture a camera or send a prepared video feed. Keep the pipeline simple and use H.264 hardware encoding where the selected software supports it. Raspberry Pi’s specification does not mean every application, overlay, or filter automatically uses the hardware encoder.
- Check the connection and power. Confirm your JioFiber plan’s upload tier and test stable upload from the intended setup. Prefer Ethernet for a stationary encoder. Use a power supply that meets the Pi’s specified minimum 5V/3A USB-C input, and keep operating conditions within the board’s stated 0–50°C ambient range.
- Create the YouTube live stream and protect its key. In YouTube Studio, set up the live stream and copy its stream key into the encoder’s stream configuration. Use the valid RTMPS ingestion endpoint and port 443; keep the key private.
- Set the encoder. Start with H.264, 720p30, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC audio, and a bitrate below the connection’s measured stable upload capacity. Increase quality only after testing the actual source and monitoring stream health.
- Run a representative test. Test with the real audio and typical motion, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. Check for sustained upload problems, dropped frames, heat or power issues, and whether the encoder reconnects after a brief interruption. What “24/7” means on YouTube
A feed that can run for a long time is not the same as one YouTube live event staying uninterrupted every day. The cited official YouTube ingest pages describe encoder requirements and connection guidance, but do not establish current handling of a single stream longer than 12 hours. Check YouTube’s current policy before deciding whether to use one extended event or scheduled and restarted events. No continuous-runtime test is established for this Pi-and-JioFiber setup, so do not promise indefinite operation.

Also make sure the stream’s content is suitable for YouTube. A live technical connection does not grant rights to music, footage, films, or other material; use content you own or are authorized to broadcast, and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and monetization policies before streaming. The cited hardware and ingest sources do not establish that reused content is permitted or monetizable.
Troubleshooting common interruptions
- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the stream key is correct and belongs to the intended live stream, and confirm the RTMPS endpoint and port 443 configuration. Keep the key private while checking it.
- Stream health reports instability: Measure upload again under the active streaming setup. Lower the bitrate or resolution if the stable upload cannot sustain the selected rate; JioFiber plan descriptions do not confirm the speed available on an individual line.
- Encoding or capture fails: Verify that the capture input is supported by the selected software and that the configured H.264 path can encode at the target settings. Simplify filters and overlays before assuming the Pi’s stated encode capability applies to the full workload.
- The Pi shuts down or behaves inconsistently: Check that its supply meets the specified 5V/3A minimum and that ambient temperature remains within the stated operating range. Also check the router, ONT, and home power, since network or electrical failures can stop the stream even when encoding is configured correctly.
- The stream drops and stays offline: Check encoder reconnect or restart behavior and monitor YouTube stream health. A provider uptime claim does not replace a recovery plan for the Pi, router, ONT, software, or power.
- A broadcast ends or its archive is missing: Do not assume a single event will remain active or be archived beyond 12 hours. Verify YouTube’s current long-stream handling and plan scheduled restarts if appropriate.
