The practical limit is set by four things: YouTube’s simultaneous-stream limits, how many distinct outputs your encoder can produce, the PC’s sustained encoding capacity, and your total upload bandwidth. Before configuring anything, make sure your music rights cover livestreaming.
Check YouTube’s limits and enable live streaming
YouTube’s current Help page allows up to 10 active streams per channel and three active streams per stream key; both limits apply at the same time. These are platform limits, not a guarantee that one PC can encode that many independent streams. YouTube Help explains the current live-stream limits.
Your channel must also be enabled for live streaming and free of any current restriction. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch rather than waiting until setup is complete.
Decide whether you need separate stations or duplicate broadcasts
For different music programming, prepare separate outputs
If each station needs its own music, schedule, or visual, prepare a distinct outgoing feed and stream configuration for each one. Each independent output adds work for the encoder, PC, and network.

For the same program on multiple watch pages, share a feed
YouTube’s Live Streaming API supports binding one live stream to multiple live broadcasts. That shares the same incoming feed; it does not create separate stations or different programming. The API also describes using a distinct live stream for a broadcast with separate content or settings. See YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
Choose an encoder and test the actual workload
OBS Studio is one possible software encoder. Its Auto Configuration Wizard can provide a starting point, but there is no source-backed universal PC specification—or fixed stream count—for continuous multi-streaming. Capacity varies with the number of independent outputs, encoder and hardware-encoder support, codec, resolution, frame rate, visual complexity, and other work running on the computer. OBS warns that compatible hardware does not guarantee it can stream or record; see the OBS system requirements.

- Set up one representative station first. Configure the intended audio, visual, encoder, and YouTube output, then test it before adding more outputs.
- Add streams one at a time. Use the appropriate stream configuration and key for each distinct outgoing feed. Keep a clear record of which key and YouTube broadcast belong to each station; do not expose stream keys.
- Test the full planned workload. Run all intended outputs with representative visuals and audio, then watch OBS’s encoding and dropped-frame indicators and YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream health.
- Reduce load or quality if the test is unstable. Lower resolution or frame rate, simplify visuals, or reduce the number of independent outputs. Re-test before relying on the setup unattended.
Do not treat an OBS compatibility check or a short single-stream test as proof that a PC can sustain several streams around the clock. The OBS system-requirements page is dated 2021 and is useful here for its capacity caveat, not as a current hardware-per-stream guarantee.
Set output quality and calculate upload needs
YouTube’s current encoder settings table recommends these H.264 video bitrates: 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps, 8 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. It recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. These are reference settings, not a requirement to use video-heavy settings for a static radio visual. Choose a supported quality appropriate to the presentation and validate it in a test. Estimate upload demand by adding the configured video and audio bitrates of every simultaneous outgoing feed. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the total bitrate, and the planned total must remain within the available upload bandwidth. For example, three feeds configured at 6 Mbps video each require 18 Mbps of video bitrate; adding the recommended 20% margin gives a planning figure of 21.6 Mbps before audio or other network traffic. That figure is arithmetic based on the cited settings and margin, not a YouTube-published measurement.
- Measure and test the connection at the location and time the streams will run; advertised download speed does not establish available upload capacity.
- Leave room for audio bitrate, other household or office traffic, and network variation.
- If the connection cannot sustain the combined bitrate with headroom, reduce output bitrates or the number of simultaneous streams.
Clear music rights before going live
Having a recording or access to music through a streaming subscription does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it live. Confirm that your rights cover livestream use and the territories where the stream will be available. YouTube for Artists recommends that music channels planning to use copyright-protected music during a livestream coordinate with their label or distributor to avoid issues such as copyright strikes. Read its guidance for music channels going live; the right answer for a particular catalog depends on its license and territory.

Plan for interruptions and the limits of YouTube archives
Prepare a recovery plan
Test the power, internet connection, encoder, and restart or recovery steps before leaving the system unattended. YouTube recommends reliable connectivity, upload headroom, testing, and stream-health monitoring. A UPS may keep the PC and network equipment powered through a short power interruption, but it cannot fix an ISP, encoder, or YouTube outage. Choose capacity according to the actual equipment load and runtime you need; no particular UPS size is established here.
Do not assume a 24/7 stream will produce a complete archive
YouTube’s encoder instructions state that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, and its archive help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. A continuous 24/7 session exceeds that threshold, so do not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete recording. If you need a full archive, plan and test a separate local recording workflow and provide enough storage.

Troubleshoot common multi-stream problems
