If OBS is supposed to play several videos in sequence but stays on one, first check the source type in the scene: Media Source plays one file, while VLC Video is OBS’s playlist-capable source. Then verify the playlist, its loop and shuffle controls, and the source’s visibility behavior. A YouTube player repeat setting does not control the playlist OBS is sending.
First identify what OBS is playing
In the OBS scene that feeds your stream, look at the source responsible for the video. The distinction matters: changing a YouTube playback control will not repair an OBS source configured for a different job.

OBS documents these source distinctions in its Media Sources guide and Sources Guide. If you expected several different videos but chose Media Source, switch to a playlist-capable source or configure the single-file loop you actually need.
Fix a VLC Video playlist that will not advance
- Open the relevant scene’s VLC Video source properties. Make sure the source is the one visible in the scene and that the intended media files appear in its playlist.
- Check the playlist order. If the next video is not the one you expected, correct the order before testing again.
- Inspect Loop Playlist. This control determines whether the source restarts after it has run out of media files; OBS describes it as: “Loop Playlist | Specifies whether the source should restart when it has run out of media files”. It does not, by itself, explain why a current item appears stuck.
- Turn off Shuffle Playlist while diagnosing sequential playback. Shuffle changes the expected order, so disable it if your test is whether file A advances to file B.
- Check Visibility Behaviour if the symptom follows scene changes or hiding the source. OBS offers stop/restart, pause/unpause, and always-play behavior. Select the behavior that matches your scene workflow; the right choice depends on whether playback should continue while the source is not visible.
- Test the sequence in OBS preview. Note whether the current item reaches its end and whether OBS advances locally. This helps separate source playback from what viewers receive, but it is a practical diagnostic comparison rather than an official OBS-prescribed test procedure.
The Loop Playlist wording is from the OBS Project’s Media Sources documentation, published 2022-01-11. Playlist looping applies after the source runs out of media files; it should not be mistaken for a control that forces a stalled current file to move on.

If VLC Video is missing from the source list
VLC Video depends on VLC being installed. OBS says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC, and lists the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS before looking for the source again. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
An optional software alternative is the Media Playlist Source resource in the OBS forums. Its listing says OBS Studio 30.0.0 is the minimum version and names Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms; the resource was created 2023-08-08. Check the listing for current compatibility before installing it. It is an alternative source, not a guaranteed fix for every playlist that fails to advance.

Separate an OBS playback problem from a YouTube delivery problem
YouTube’s repeat control applies to watching a video or playlist in the YouTube player. It does not configure, advance, or loop the local playlist source in OBS. The controls belong to separate products: changing YouTube’s repeat setting cannot make OBS choose its next file. YouTube documents its viewer-side control in Loop videos or playlists on YouTube.

- If OBS itself stays on the file, return to the source type, playlist contents, loop/shuffle controls, and visibility behavior.
- If OBS advances but YouTube playback stalls, treat that as a stream-delivery or viewer-playback symptom, not as proof that the playlist settings are wrong. OBS’s help portal says rising dropped frames and a yellow or red connection indicator point to an unstable connection to the streaming service or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Check those indicators before changing playlist controls; the cited help page does not establish one definitive diagnosis for every viewer-side freeze.
