Add the clock and prayer timetable as a transparent Browser Source in OBS, layered above your mantra video. Set the schedule for a clearly identified location and calculation convention, then verify it against the timetable used by the relevant local authority before broadcasting. Prayer times are not universal, so a schedule without its location and method can mislead viewers.
What you need to decide first
- Location: Choose the city or coordinates the schedule is meant to represent. Do not present times as universally applicable.
- Calculation convention: Select the method used by the relevant local authority, and determine whether local minute adjustments apply. AlAdhan’s Prayer Time Calculation Methods page explains that methods and local preferences differ.
- Overlay layout: Decide whether the clock and prayer timetable belong in one combined page or in separate sources. One page is simpler to position and maintain; separate sources let you place or update each element independently.
- Data source: Use an API for automation or a timetable published by the appropriate local authority when direct alignment with that authority matters.
Add the clock and timetable in OBS
- Create or obtain the overlay. Prepare a transparent HTML page with a clock and the daily prayer timetable, or use a separate clock page and timetable source. A community guide documents using a local clock HTML file in OBS: Time and Date Overlay updated.
- Choose how the page is loaded. In OBS, add a Browser Source to your scene. It can load a URL or a local file; for a local HTML page, enable Local file and browse to the file. Set the source dimensions to suit your overlay. The OBS Project describes Browser Source as a way to add a web browser directly to a scene and says it allows “all sorts of custom layout, image, video, and even audio tasks.” See OBS Browser Source help.
- Supply prayer times for the selected place. AlAdhan’s Prayer Times API documentation describes requests by coordinates, city and country, or address. Configure the selected calculation method and any appropriate adjustments; do not assume the API’s default matches your local authority.
- Layer and style the overlay. In the OBS scene, place the clock and timetable sources above the mantra video. Choose readable text and strong contrast against the video, and size the sources so important parts of the image remain visible.
- Preview and verify. Compare the displayed timetable with the appropriate local source for the chosen location and convention. Check the full scene at the size viewers will see, including the clock, prayer labels, video, and audio, before going live.
Choose a prayer-time source carefully
Calculation methods can yield different times, and local or government preferences may apply additional adjustments. AlAdhan recommends choosing the method used by the issuing authority closest to your base; its example of minute-level differences is not a universal guarantee. Use the convention that fits the stated location, and label the overlay so viewers know which place it represents. The AlAdhan page’s practical advice is the service author’s view, not a religious ruling or regulator’s instruction.

Keep the overlay maintainable
Local HTML versus hosted page
A local file keeps the overlay page under your control and does not depend on a hosted webpage being available. A hosted page can be easier to update remotely, but the Browser Source depends on that page loading. Whichever you choose, test it in the actual OBS scene and confirm the prayer data itself is current.
One source versus separate sources
A combined clock-and-prayer page reduces scene clutter and keeps the elements together. Separate Browser Sources make it easier to reposition the clock and timetable independently, but create more pieces to configure and check.

Continuous playback options
The overlay is only one part of a 24/7 setup. You can keep a basic OBS scene and manage playback and recovery separately, or consider a playout tool. The 24/7 Playout Plugin for OBS documents playlist/rundown playback and transparent browser overlays; its documentation lists a Windows x64 release and recommends OBS Studio 32.x or compatible. That scope does not establish suitability for every system, and it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Troubleshooting the clock and prayer schedule
- The Browser Source is blank: Check that the URL is reachable or, for a local page, that Local file is enabled and the selected file path is correct.
- The overlay is cropped or too small: Adjust the Browser Source dimensions and the page layout, then preview the scene at its intended output size.
- The prayer times differ from a local timetable: Confirm the location, calculation method, and any local minute adjustments. Check the relevant authority’s published timetable rather than assuming one method is universal.
- The overlay looks hard to read: Increase text size or contrast and reposition it over a less visually busy area of the video.
- The stream stops even though the overlay is configured: A Browser Source only renders content in the scene; it does not establish a complete 24/7 uptime or restart strategy. Check the playback and streaming workflow separately, and test the complete setup before relying on it continuously.
