Estimate its traffic from the encoder’s sustained bitrate, then price that volume using the source AWS Region and your account’s pooled monthly DTO usage. At YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate for 1080p30, a continuous 30-day stream transfers about 3.24 decimal TB; at 1080p60, about 3.888 decimal TB. There is no reliable universal monthly dollar figure without the Region and account usage.
What AWS charges for an EC2-to-YouTube stream
When an EC2 instance sends its encoded live stream over the public internet to YouTube, the traffic is outbound data transfer from AWS. AWS says inbound data transfer from the internet into AWS is not charged; that ingress rule does not make the stream upload free, because the video is travelling out of AWS.
The estimate here covers the encoder’s single upload to YouTube. It does not multiply that upload by the stream’s audience. YouTube transcodes incoming live video into output formats for viewers, so viewer delivery is handled by YouTube. If instead AWS also distributes video directly to viewers through a CDN, that is a different architecture and billing calculation.
Estimate monthly transfer from bitrate
For a constant bitrate B in Mbps running continuously for 30 days, estimated traffic is approximately B Ă— 0.324 decimal TB. This arithmetic assumes the configured bitrate is sustained for the full 30 days; it is not an AWS measurement. Actual transferred bytes can differ because of audio, transport overhead, and encoder behavior.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Configured bitrate | Estimated traffic over 30 days | Example YouTube setting |
|---|---|---|
| 10 Mbps | About 3.24 decimal TB | H.264, 1080p30 |
| 12 Mbps | About 3.888 decimal TB | H.264, 1080p60 |
For a different bitrate or run length, multiply Mbps by operating seconds, divide by 8 to get bytes, then convert to decimal TB or another clearly labeled unit. Use decimal TB consistently when comparing against the estimates above; binary TiB is a different unit.
Choose the bitrate that matches the stream
YouTube’s encoder guidance gives recommended ingest bitrates by resolution, frame rate, and codec. These are recommendations, not a guarantee that every encoder will emit that exact rate continuously. Check your encoder’s actual configured bitrate before estimating transfer.

| Resolution and frame rate | YouTube H.264 recommendation |
|---|---|
| 720p30 or 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 21 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 34 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) 30 fps | 42 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) 60 fps | 50 Mbps |
The corresponding 30-day traffic estimate follows the same formula. For example, 8 Mbps is about 2.592 decimal TB, while 50 Mbps is about 16.2 decimal TB, assuming continuous operation at those rates.
YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS and H.264, H.265, or AV1, recommends constant bitrate encoding, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS as the secure extension to RTMP. Protocol choice does not by itself change the AWS DTO pricing tier; the volume sent is the relevant quantity for this estimate.

Work out the applicable AWS price
- Identify the source Region. AWS bases DTO charges on the Region the data leaves. A rate from another Region may not apply to your instance.
- Estimate this stream’s monthly volume. Use the sustained encoder bitrate and operating time. Include protocol overhead if you need a closer estimate from network measurements.
- Check the account’s pooled usage and allowance. AWS describes a 100 GB monthly free internet DTO allowance aggregated across AWS services and Regions, except China and GovCloud. Other services can consume some or all of it. DTO tiers also aggregate usage across multiple services.
- Price the remaining volume with current AWS rates. Enter the source Region and monthly transfer flow in the AWS Pricing Calculator, and account for the applicable pooled usage and tiering.
A precise charge cannot be inferred from bitrate alone: the source Region, current regional tier rates, and account-wide DTO usage are all needed. AWS’s official EC2 pricing page is the place to check the applicable schedule; use the calculator for an estimate based on your Region and monthly flow.
Keep ingest and audience delivery separate
For one EC2 encoder sending one stream to YouTube, the EC2-side transfer estimate is one ingest feed, regardless of how many people watch. YouTube states that it automatically transcodes a live stream into multiple output formats for viewers. Do not apply AWS CDN or viewer-distribution totals to this single-upload case. AWS’s managed live-streaming guidance describes separate distribution architectures with their own assumptions and costs.
