Capturing Bigfoot is a documentary directed by Marq Evans about the people and family history behind Roger Patterson’s famous 1967 footage. The official trailer introduces a story of a reel said to have resurfaced decades later, the people connected to it and the lasting consequences of the Bigfoot debate. FirstShowing reports an October 20, 2026 release in select U.S. theaters and on Prime Video; XYZ Films’ page does not confirm that schedule.
What is Capturing Bigfoot about?
XYZ Films describes the documentary as a return to October 20, 1967, when Roger Patterson filmed what he believed was a creature in Northern California. The film follows the story of a 16mm reel said to have been discovered in a safe decades later, approaching the footage through Patterson’s son and other people connected with the events.
The distributor presents the documentary as more than an examination of a disputed image: its framing emphasizes family legacy, broken friendships and belief. That is the film’s stated perspective, not proof of what appears in the footage. The sources describing the movie do not independently establish that the image shows Bigfoot.
What does the official trailer reveal?
The trailer introduces the documentary’s focus on the people behind the footage and the personal weight of a controversy that has endured for decades. Director Marq Evans told FirstShowing: “That footage is one of the most recognizable images in the world, but the people behind it have privately carried its weight for almost sixty years. This film is their story; about family, loyalty, and the truths they’ve held onto or finally let go of. I’m grateful they trusted me to help them finally tell it.”

No. A documentary trailer can preview the film’s account and its subjects’ perspectives, but the sources available here establish only the movie’s premise and its connection to Patterson’s footage. They do not independently determine what the footage depicts. The title’s promise of “the truth” is promotional phrasing, not a scientific finding.
